I stayed with Kay and her son for 7 weeks. I really enjoyed my time and felt at ease right away. Kay and her son are friendly and so easy to chat with. Kay made sure I had everything I needed.

Kay had a bike for use too, and also took me into inverness town during afternoon school pick ups.
If you are looking for a family feel, with nature surrounding you and a peaceful pace of life, I would definitely recommend working with Kay.

Good luck for the season and hopefully meet for a whisky on your doorstop again one day down the track. All the best. Big hugs!!!!
Feito pelo anfitrião para o Workawayer (Martina & Christof)
Martina and Christof came and stayed with us for 4 weeks. In that time they took on a variety of jobs - maintenance, DIY, painting, plastering and general repairs.
They worked very well together and I could leave them to get on with the work knowing they would do a great job.
Another task was wallpapering and before arriving Christof had

What stood out for me with the way they worked, among many things, was the care and attention to each job they took on. They both worked meticulously and worked very hard to ensure work was completed to a high standard.
Another important point to make is how responsible and trustworthy they are in your property.
Martina and Christof interacted well and spent a lot of their spare time with my son, we had great fun in the evenings playing card games after dinner. Martina is a fantastic cook and was more than happy to prepare dinner.
Overall it was an absolute pleasure to host Martina and Christof, they are a wonderful couple and great people to be around.
I wish you both all the best and would love for you to come and visit us again (Alexander keeps talking about gemsh - excuse spelling).
Lots of love
Kay and Alexander

We stayed with Kay and Alexander for four weeks and helped renovate the guesthouse. It is impossible to squeeze my 4-month experience in a few short paragraphs, but I can easily say without exaggeration that my time at Kay's guesthouse was perhaps the most important and rewarding experience of my life so far.
The moment I stepped off the bus, Kay welcomed me with open arms and immediately made me feel welcome and as if I was a
… read more part of the family. I came there in May and stayed until September, so I was able to get used to the work before the peak of the season started. The workload was reasonable and never too strenuous - in the mornings, I had to prepare the dining room and serve breakfast while Kay was preparing it, then we had a little coffee break and finally I had to clean or service the rooms and maybe do some other little tasks around the guesthouse, but I was usually off the hook from early afternoon until the evening when I helped serve dinner if anyone ordered it.
Sometimes Kay asked me to look after her son, Alexander, which was an absolute pleasure, as he is the sweetest and brightest young boy who constantly kept me entertained with his intriguing questions and hilarious remarks. And don't even get me started on Kay herself, who is one of the kindest, most welcoming and generous people I've had the pleasure of meeting. I cannot even imagine how a host could be any better than this - she is very flexible, extremely patient (believe me, I've tested it alright), and which meant the most: she never treated me as just an employee. Of course, she expected me to do my work well, but she was always there to speak to me on a personal level if I struggled with anything, and we shared countless cups of tea or coffee chatting about just about anything, just as friends do. On less busy days, she even took me along with them on wonderful little trips to different points of interest, which enabled me to see some amazing places I never would've been able to see on my own.
I was there at the same time as a couple of other Workawayers, so when they worked, I had my time off (and vice-versa), which enabled me to visit and spend some time in all the main Scottish cities, and I found this system to be just a perfect combination of work experience and travelling. Plus, Tomatin and its general area are just gorgeous! It is isolated enough to be perfect for anyone who is looking for some peace, but has enough bus connections to not be completely cut off from society. I would also heavily recommend future Workawayers to take the bus to Carrbridge and Grantown, because they're just two lovely towns more than worth exploring (Inverness and Aviemore obviously go without saying).
All in all, I cannot even imagine how my experience could have been any better. I was able to call a country I'm infinitely in love with my home for a while, and I was welcomed into a home of two wonderful people who will always have a special place in my heart. I will always be grateful to Kay for all she gave me - directly and indirectly - during my time with them, and for all the lessons I've learned over that summer that will stay with me forever. I believe that anyone who will choose to join them will feel the same in the end.
(And to this day, I still have porridge for breakfast.)Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

I went to Tomatin as a workaway guest, and I found not a host, - but a friend. Thank you very much Kay, for this unforgettable Scottish experience, thank you for your kindness, for all the good laughs and discussions about everything under the sun and all your valuable advice. You deserve 6 stars.
I had an amazing stay with Kay and her son
… read more Alexander, 5. Upon my arrival I became part of the family. It was a matter of sharing really. Kay is relaxed but hard working.
Work was seeing what needed to be done, and get it done, and also deep cleaning the guest rooms (which were already clean). A little bit of everything: cooking, cleaning the kitchen, doing all kind of household chores, also looking after Alexander. He is such a bright, lovely and well behaved boy, it was always a joy to be with him. Work was easy and the work time fair. Kay constantly reminded me to take a break, or to eat more, or to put the heating on in the guest rooms I cleaned, she is the most caring person. My dietary needs, my privacy and the fact that I sometimes like going to bed really early was always respected.
Kay and even Alexander were always very grateful and appreciative.
Her beautiful victorian guesthouse in Tomatin is next to a distillery (can be visited), rural and good for hiking, nature, getting to know the rural way of life in the Highlands. I met some of her neighbours, they are open and friendly - (as all Scottish people in my experience). Tomatin is a small village, the walk from the guesthouse to the community shop takes about 30 minutes. There is a good bus connection to Inverness or Aviemore, but as I stayed with there at the end of the tourist season, Kay would also drive me to Inverness, if there was time.
I was offered one week's holiday with the family, and it was a special first experience for me, holidaying in a caravan in a caravan park further north. At first I was a little bit afraid of living in a caravan, not knowing what to expect, and afraid it would not have any kind of heating - but alas! - the caravan was so well heated that it was actually HOT. Kay went out of her way to show me the beautiful Scottish countryside - the North Coast 500 route - never before have I seen such amazing beautiful landscape - it really is the ultimate road trip. We encountered so many stags and deer! Thank you Kay!
Accommodation: as it was the end of the tourist season, some guest rooms were empty, Kay gave me a big and very beautiful guest room, warm, very good bed, private bath room; however, I saw the room she usually gives workawayers, and can recommend it: a single bedroom, with private bath room perfect for one person, clean and cozy.
I learned a lot about Scottish culture, tradition and even language. I got a glimpse of what it means to work in a guesthouse - and I am grateful for this experience. I learned to make beds hotel style.
Food was always plenty, and if I wanted, I could prepare a lunch or dinner. For the first time in my life I ate kippers for breakfast, which I rather enjoyed, because the fish is smoked and very tasty.
Kay is warm-hearted, considerate and always well-balanced and friendly. She is generous, honest, hard working and ... I am lost for words ... thank you Kay and Alexander, I wish you all the best, and I hope to be able to come back sometime in the future.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.
