Probably the most chill and most fun Workaway ever.

We have a toddler and an organic ecofarm, but your only official responsibility is enjoying life and contributing good vibes. And most of your own food.

Ziggy (the toddler) is highly social and will probably make you into a fast friend. And you can certainly help with projects on the ecofarm if you would like. But if you just wanna decompress in a hammock the whole time, then do that!

What else?
* We strongly prefer that volunteers stay for at least one week.
* Volunteers stay in screened-in cabins that are scattered around the farm, which is adjacent to two creeks.
* You're responsible for providing and cooking your own food, but we aim to make that feel totally painless. We provide basic supplies like spices, plus plenty of direct support to procure your desired food items. We'll even feed you on the day you arrive so you're not juggling luggage and groceries simultaneously 🙏
* The farm has a dedicated internet line that is fast and reliable. (Your host works remotely full time with zero issues.)
* The cabins do not have electricity but volunteers can access a power supply at the main house.

We are off the grid but close to the main road with easy access to the bus and busito. 12 miles from the capital city of Belmopan and 40 miles west of Belize City. The nearest farmers' market is in the next village (Cotton Tree).

Please bring a headlamp. If you want to help on the farm, please bring work boots and clothes accordingly.

We really loved our time at Allie and Ray’s farm. It was so educational to experience what it’s like to live and work off the grid. We are amazed at what Allie and Ray have accomplished in just a few years and we will definitely be thinking of them down the road when we begin our own farm project.

We were really lucky and got to stay in the… read more private cabin for our entire 3.5 weeks. It is an awesome, comfy little structure that kept the bugs away and we even had a little table and fire pit of our own. Allie and Ray have made sure that the farm has everything we need, which was refreshing after a lot of workaways that don’t provide all the essentials. The other volunteers stayed in the main house but they would come over often to cook over the fire and play cards. Getting to know the other volunteers was a huge highlight of the experience.

We loved eating healthy, delicious meals every day and as a cook Eric enjoyed preparing the food on some of the days. Most of our tasks in the kitchen include peeling veggies, picking herbs outside, cleaning dishes, and bringing in new water. I also held the cook’s baby a lot which I loved.

Six days a week we worked at the nursery and I mean WORK. We were responsible for lots of weeding, hoeing, and maintainance around the farm. We also got to bring out the beautiful horse Allie Ray each morning. Although it was definitely hard work and we came home exhausted every day, Allie and Ray both gave us the space and trust to set our own work schedules, and they never questioned our work at all. It felt good to be a part of a team and we had the nursery looking amazing by the time we left.

Our favorite part of the experience was bathing in the river. Lucky for us we arrived at the very beginning of dry season so there was still a healthy river for us to swim in at least once a day. Watch out, the little fish like to nibble you, especially in your armpits!

We also loved gazing up at the incredible blanket of stars every evening. The sights, smells and sounds on the farm are everything you could want from an off-grid experience in Belize.

If you come make sure to set aside time to hang in Belmopan, Harmonyville and Cotton Tree- we loved getting to know the people and had so much fun making new friends. Everyone was so friendly and we felt very welcome and safe.

This was one of our best workaway experiences yet. If you don’t really want to work then this isn’t for you. But if you’re ready to work hard, communicate openly, and have a once in a lifetime experience, we definitely recommend Allie and Ray’s farm.
