Hello dear workawayer! We are a family living in Abano Terme, a nice Spa town near Padua in the north east of Italy. We are 2 adults and 2 girls aged 12 and 14, the youngest with Autism. We are surrounded by nature, yet very close to the lively university town of Padua, and a short train ride to Venice.

We would love to show our kids the beauty of different cultures, habits and languages. At the same time we would love to give the opportunity to enjoy our beautiful part of Italy to someone who wishes to live a special cultural experience. Art lovers will love the area as Padua and the nearby cities are full of it!

Ajuda
We request light housework mainly during mornings, from 10 to 12.
🍴Lunch will be self provided : you have a simple but fully equipped kitchen all for you, and a supermarket within walking distance).
🍝🍾Dinner is with us unless you are away.
Whenever possibile it will be nice to spend an hour teaching French to Sara, mainly by simple chatting or doing her French homework. She is often busy studying , or resting 🤣, but let's try!

Our oldest kid, 14, speaks good English and is now interested in improving French.
The youngest, 13, is Autistic , she doesn't talk but can give lots of hugs 💕. If you have experience with special need kids It will be great, but it is not necessary as you will not be asked to look after her.

A part for the help in the house we are interested in the cultural exchange and the possibility for our older daughter to learn other cultures.☺️

One last important things: we request our guests to respect our privacy: as much as we love having people around we also need some quiet times. But don't worry, we'll work out a schedule together so you know what to expect.

Acomodação
You'll have your own bedroom with private bathroom and kitchen at the ground floor (we are upstairs). 👉No air conditioning so if you struggle with heat please do not apply for June, July and August👈
Please also notice that we have a cat.
As for meals..I don't really like cooking..but if you have simple tastes there will always be something to share together! Or the kitchen is yours if you wish to cook some dishes of your country:)

In the time off you can visit many nearby cities like Padua, Venice, Verona , go for bike rides or go for a swim in one of the many local thermal swimming pools.
Bus stop is a 10 minute bike ride,
We live a very simple life, since we have to adjust to the special needs of the autistic daughter, often busy with her terapies and activities.

If one day you go to Samuela and her family's place... you are very lucky!!
They are a wonderful family, friendly, curious, easygoing, open-minded, and kind!
As for the accommodation, it's basically a palace — very spacious! And private :)

I can not put into words how incredibly amazing this experience has been! This was my first Workaway experience and I stayed with Samuela and her family for 2 weeks and they were so so great. I was immediately welcomed into the family and always felt like I was part of the family and I can truly say that Samuela, Eric and the kids have a part of… read more my heart.
My tasks included getting fresh produce and bread from the nearby supermarket every day, teaching Sara and helping her with her homework and having some german lessons with Eric and Samuela. I really enjoyed all the language lessons and we had lots of laughs :D
Sara and Eva are both amazing and very well behaved kids, there was never a dull moment! Learning more about Autism and how to interact with autistic kids was interesting and I am very grateful to have learned so much! Samuela was always open to talk and answer any of my questions and I never felt overwhelmed when faced with new situations or challenges.
Samuela is an amazing and very inspiring woman, she is so devoted to her whole family and her kids. We had great conversations after almost every meal about so many topics, I learned a lot about her very interesting life and so much about Italy and the italian way of living. What an amazing culture exchange!
Eric was always fun to be around with and very passionate about his favourite music.
They all made me feel so accepted and like a part of the family, I will forever be grateful for the many memories, activities/trips, laughs and adventures we had together and their hospitality - thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
I met a lot of the family - all the grandparents, lots of sisters, brothers, aunts and cousins; they were all very friendly and open minded and even though there was a language barrier we still had great conversations and they were very passionate about sharing the italian culture and cuisine with me.
Speaking of cuisine - WOW did I eat well! Even though Samuela states she does not cook often or well ( she is totally lying ) the food was absolutely amazing and that every single day. I learned so much about wine, local produce (the tomatoes were mouth watering) and the art of using very few but good quality ingredients to make an amazing meal. Thanks to Eric for showing me how to make a proper italian Carbonara, I have cooked it for my family and they loved it!
Travelling around Veneto from Abano was fairly easy, I visited Verona, Treviso, Padua and Venice and would recommend all of these beautiful cities.
I hope to see you guys again in the future :)
