Family of 4. Böddi, Ella, Hafdís (daugther 37)and Böðvar (Hafdís son 17). We live in Skagafjörður, north West in Iceland. It is about 1 hour drive from Akureyri. In this area of Skagafjörður you could go hiking, fishing, river rafting, natural hot pot is close to us and other things. Nearest swimmingpool and gasstation is 17 km away, Varmahlíð.

We live on a farm but need help with private home and garden.

The benefit of staying with us is that you will learn to respect the nature, and get to know Iceland in special and unic way. You get to know how our life is and hopefully you will make life long friends. You will stay as one of the family. We eat together and work together. As we eat together we prefer not vegan people, because we eat alot of meat and fish.
Ajuda
We are looking for someone to help out in the home, clean, paint, bake and other differend things. Also help in the garden, it is different what to do there. In june we put down potatoes and take them up in september. Cut grass in summer. And other things.

We live on a farm but only need help with private home and garden.

We prefer a female volunteer.

Had a fabulous time last August on the farm. The weather and scenery was lovely. I did some baking and cooking, domestic duties and painted outside with another workaway. The hosts were very welcoming. It was hard work but was rewarded with some fantastic opportunities to experience other things away from the farm. I will be going back.

It’s my first workaway experience in a farm and I have to say that was fantastic.. way beyond my expectations!!

I was there for 5 weeks in August/September. Their day usually starts at around 8am. Till 9am they finish their morning routine in the farm. Everyone comes back to the house for a coffee break. Then we decide what to do for the day.… read more Everyday can be different. You can also be initiative and come up with your own ideas ;). Around 12 we have lunch together, which is one of my favorite moments during my stay. Ella is an amazing cook. For 5 weeks I had everyday different lunch, delicious and well prepared. They eat lots of meat: lamb, beef, horsemeat and fish as well. Sometimes there’s a nap after lunch. Sometimes they just go back to work directly. About 4pm there’s another coffee break and dinner is usually a lighter meal at around 8pm.

The whole family is very kind and hardworking.
They understand very well the concept of volunteering, which means that they never forced me to do anything but rather asked what I can do/would like to do. If you are interested and motivated, there are a lot of things waiting for you to try out. How? Very simple: just ask :) It might not happen immediately but they always keep in mind.

Don’t be confused when you ask them what to do the next day and they can’t tell you. Because their work is generally based on the weather! Since Iceland has a variable weather, one can hardly rely on the weather from the night before. :)

If you have a drivers license you can explore the area yourself cause they have a spare car that you can use. I was with another workawayer at the same time so we took a day off to Drangey and Hófsos. We also went rafting and kayaking which were both super cool experience! In addition, Hafdís brought us on a road trip till Akureyri and Böddi drove us to the highland as well.

There are a lot more to tell but I don’t want to spoil you and you might want to discover something by yourself. ;)

I can’t stop sharing my experience and feelings about the time in Iceland, particularly in Brúnastaðir. Every moment is precious and unforgettable. It’s engraved in my brain and dissolved in my blood. I miss there so much that sometimes I woke up during the night with tears on my face. It was for me a life changing experience. I really appreciate the family offering me this opportunity.
