  ***Currently seeking a couple of people to help on the olive harvest, last week of October would be ideal, it will be probably a week of picking olives with other small jobs in between including clay painting in the cabin****

  We haven’t hosted any workaways since Tiago joined us a year and a half ago which is why you won’t see him in any reviews. We are ready to host again as a bigger family now!
  
  We are Leah, Tiago, Oscar and Rachel,
  
  Me (Leah) Tiago and Oscar (7) live in a wood cabin, Rachel lives in a granite house and our guest accommodation is a simple basement bedroom. This is a lovely little place close to the town of Seia. The house is surrounded by a modest garden with a stunning view of the mountains. We are on the edge of a village but feeling a little secluded with olive fields and forest in front of the property.
  
  I work as a gardener and do some odd jobs/projects. Tiago is a carpenter. At home we like to be busy with activities in the garden and the kitchen and there are always endless tasks to do here.
  
  We need help with gardening, house maintenance, cooking, fermenting and preserving as well as fixing a few things on the buildings. Of course it depends on each individuals skills as to what we will be doing.
  
  A bit about us -
  I am passionate about real food and soil, love animals and working with nature, keen to be part of reforesting our local area with native species. Rewilding feels important to me and everywhere I have lived so far I have created habitats for wildlife to return, I have enjoyed seeing bare and barren farm land transform into a safe haven for the many different species of birds and insects to come and thrive, along with growing super healthy food to forage.
  
  Over the years I have created growing spaces based on the ideas of synergistic gardening among other designs using Permaculture principles in setting up systems. I have been in Portugal for 6 years and have previously worked as a gardener and a farmer in the UK. I am a kind, humble and motivated person who is happy working together with others and sharing meals and playing games. I love taking hikes and being in nature, foraging and picnics by the lake in the mountains, to name a few.
  Communication and connection is important so I value those who can be open and honest. I enjoy welcoming people to our home and sharing whatever we have to offer at the time.
  
  Oscar my son loves to be involved and likes to play and have fun, campfires and board games too. When he feels safe and connected he is a super loving, helpful and funny character.
  
  Tiago is a carpenter and enjoys spending free time hiking, cooking and being busy with finishing our cabin.
  
  Rachel is a welcoming and friendly person who is happy to have some more company around, though she is very busy with her online work, she has also been hosting on workaway since she bought this place and has her profile on here too.
  Rachel has also travelled a lot and has plenty of life experience to share.
  
  There are often social activities to be involved with locally. There are artisan markets and fun community events and work days to get involved with. We have friends near by, a good mix of people from all over the world. We are in our 40s and my mum 60’s and Oscar is 7, but we welcome people of all ages and backgrounds.
  
  We also have Indi a very sweet and quiet dog who is a real character and loves outdoor adventures. Then there is Bubu, the cat that came with the house, you may see her from time to time.
  
  The accommodation is most likely in the basement which has a bedroom and toilet but Tiago also has his office there so you must be ok with company sometimes. He mostly works on his job site but has a little computer stuff to do each day and spends more time there on rainy days.
  
  Check out the photos at the bottom of this page to get a feel of what its like here and we have some photos of trips out that we regularly do such as Tabua market and mountains, lakes and river.
  
  We eat all types of food and love to taste foods from around the world, you need to be ok with the fact that we eat meat (which we try to source as ethically and locally as possible) so if you are vegetarian then sometimes you may have to cook a separate meal or just not eat the meat part of the meal, we always have plenty of veggies in our cooking and often eat vegetarian meals too.
