Objetivos de sustentabilidade da ONU que este anfitrião quer atingir
Oportunidades de intercâmbio cultural e aprendizado
Connect with a diverse, heartful, artful, pioneering clan at the start of a new project. Learn about alternative living, benefit from a healthy lifestyle connecting with the land, have fun and be playful, access a myriad of artistic and embodied activities.
We need help playing with the kids and around the house.
In addition to tending little ones and home, we host community gatherings and grow food, so there's plenty to get involved with if you like doing those things.
Having your own vehicle will be a bonus, though not essential if you like walking or cycling. The village is a 20 minute walk away.

Trails into Dartmoor National Park pass through our land. We have a music room, movement room, library, and small but vibrant local community. There are regular communal dinners, events, visitors and activities.
Lemon's stay has been full of fun and beauty. Our kids miss her and so do we. Lemon is a productive and hard-working human with excellent communication and a big heart. Our's is a fairly chaotic environment with lots of energetic wildlings on the run, but Lemon was very skillful in navigating a group of mixed age kids (and their parents!) .… read more Lemon's knowledge is grounded in studies and work experience that meant really useful impulses, insights and suggestions for our kids were shared. I'm grateful for the meals Lemon prepared with such care, bringing our community together round the table at a time when we were feeling too stretched to offer big communal meals. Lemon was also a total angel in the house, often going above and beyond the required exchange and making the house feel lovely. I felt like we quickly built trust and that there was a lot of energy and willingness to engage in the whole of life here, and also to dive into friendships and share lifes journey with all it's highs and lows. It was clear from the start that here was a person with capacity for deep connection, whom you could confide in, trust, offer feedback to, get useful feedback from, give and receive support, party with, and enjoy living alongside. We hope to welcome Lemon again.
I originally agreed to volunteer at Ridiculous House for three weeks… and ended up staying for three months. That probably says it all.
I absolutely adored my time there. I lived in a little wagon in the field (this was my own private space) which had electricity and heating, and even through the very wet, muddy, and snowy Devon winter… read more (November–February), I was always warm and cosy.
Most of my time was spent playing with the children, cooking communal meals, and helping organise and tidy the shared house. I really enjoyed the freedom and independence to organise my own time and volunteer hours. Dan is great at trusting you to manage your schedule in a way that works for you, which made the experience feel collaborative rather than rigid. You can fully become part of the community, or you can do your hours and keep more to yourself, there’s space for both, including quiet time in nature. I loved the social side: cooking together, gathering around the fire, and joining house meetings. There’s definitely a lot of chaos, fun, and food.
I didn't have a vehicle whilst I was there but there were plenty of lifts and this didn't hinder my experience at all. But if you are wanting more freedom to explore the area this may be a bonus.
As I was there in winter I mostly joined in the cosiness and running of the house but can imagine in the sunnier times you could be apart of the outdoor activities and events that happen. I would especially recommend this place to someone who is happy being around children, embraces a bit of chaos, enjoys getting stuck in, and appreciates community living. Also if you love music this is definitely the place for you!! Lots of instruments and fun jam sessions.
If you’re adaptable, self-motivated and a little bit silly you’ll thrive here. And if you do get the joy of visiting please give JoJo and Kia (cats) a big cuddle from me.

Morvah was great to have around: communication flowed well and she was amply available to help with whatever was going on day to day, willingly bringing her energy to life here. We enjoyed her steady and supportive presence and found it easy to share space in a fairly chaotic moment of family, community, and land-life. Hopefully we'll see her… read more again! Most welcome...
