Roy supported me as a Workawayer and then as a pet and house sitter for in all 8 weeks. He helped in the garden and did maintenance in house and garden. Roy was incredible with every kind of crafts. He has a lot of knowledge and skills which he used to deal with problems and could made work arounds when necessary. The outcome of everything he did
… read more was always perfect. He never fudged and he even took on difficult tasks which he always accomplished perfectly. I am very happy that some of the work I've always shied away from has finally been done!
Apart form all the work, most important for me was caring for my two dogs while I was away. I am ever so grateful to Roy how he loved and cared for the 'boys' (as he called them). Thanks to Roy I could go on my trip very relieved because they loved him as well and enjoyed to go on longs walks and hikes with him. I could tell they were really sad when he left.
Moreover, I came home to a spotlessly clean house and he had left a deliciously homemade spaghetti sauce for me. Roy had even finalized building a wall in the garden, swept the terrace and cleaned the car!!! Everything was more than I had ever expected. Thanks Roy - you are really phenomenal! The boys are waiting for your return eagerly!

I stayed at Evelyn's place for almost 2 months.
First weeks as a WorkAway, and then a dogsit.

It's been almost 2 months ago that I was there, and I still miss Tom and Eva everyday!
I stayed in a really nice house, were I got everything that I needed..with a beautiful view.
Regarding to the work, I did different kind of things. Gardening is a big part of it.
La Palma is a beautiful island, and my stay over there is something I will not forget.

Thorsten was with me for almost one month. He is a nice guy, a bit shy but reliable and flexible. He did all his tasks well: mainly gardening (I'm sorry there was so much weed!) and some maintenance of the house. Thorsten even brought me some sweet potatoe plants and taught be how to grow and multiply them. He got along perfectly with my dogs and

I stayed one month at Evelyn's place.
It was realy great. Evelyn is very nice and always asked if i needed something.
she cooked every day for lunch, it was always delicious.
I mostly worked in the garden and sometimes around the house. and she has two super nice dogs. i walked them every morning.

Nici stayed with me for four weeks as a Workawayer and then as pet and house sitter another month. It was a pleasure to have Nici - it was a perfect match right from the start. … read more rely on her fully in everything. It was always a pleasure to chat about this and that as we shared many interests. We often did some outings together, be it swimming in the sea or going to music events. What I enjoyed most was her love for the dogs. We had planned to leave the dogs with her for the time when I was in Germany. Luckily the three got along perfectly and were one heart and one soul! I was really relieved to leave my two darlings in these loving hands. Some time ago, Nici and her partner popped in for a visit and the dogs almost freaked out!

I had my own space, a tiny extension that had everything I needed and I was well looked after (Evelyn always cooked a very varied and delicious lunch and we ate together) and the work was easy to manage. … read more it's fun to have them around. Evelyn's place is a bit out of the way, but still has good transport connections and is ideal as a starting point for hikes or activities. The view of the sea and three Canary Islands was wonderful, 700 meters above sea level and the starry nights were a highlight.Fotos

… read more painting, siliconing, mortaring, plastering, preparing the floor for a pool, sawing wood, reconstructing stairs and much more. Ermano often had good ideas on how to improve things. He was careful with the tools and you could always rely on him to put his tools away. My Spanish improved as a result of our lunchtime conversations. He was very tidy and left the little studio impeccable. If you need the perfect Workawayer - choose Ermano!

The island is beautiful, the finca is in a quiet but not too isolated area (10 minutes walk to the village), very close to the forested area crossed by lots of paths, and there are others running along nearby volcanoes, perfect for those who like hiking.
I worked hard and received so much, I had a really good time, definitely recommended!

… read more everything and he did it. Moreover he had some good ideas (like building a sawhorse from left over wood or painting ) and surprised me with many tasks. Tom is a very sensitive, experienced in many fields and entertaining - he can talk about all issues. He is one of these rare men who can talk about their feelings and is reflective. It was an interesting time with Tom which I don't want miss.

Lucia has been with me for almost three weeks and again for five weeks of house sitting. She is such a lovely person, spreading positiv vibes, is active and outgoing. In the first place, Lucia has helped me sooo much with her Spanish, when it came to dealing with the internet and utility providers, trying to get appointments at the police, buying
… read more things at the DIY store, talking to handymen and on man other occasions. She also taught me Spanish in a funny way! Moreover she was busy working with me in the garden and on the house. I was so happy that she painted a lot of things - especially because I don't like painting. Everything she did was done accurately and she often had good ideas to make things better. She is very practical and has a big knowledge. Lucia has a patient, tolerant personality and she often calmed me down when I was about to freak out because issues were not working out as fast as I wanted them. She taught me how the Spanish people 'work'. We were never short of subjects to talk and laugh about. When Lucia was house sitting she had to deal with 'not easy' renters of the second house. She did everything to please them and was fighting the bitchos negros in the house. Lucia was not only a workawayer - she is a friend and family member and it was a pleasure to have her around. Lucia is one of these rare gems you don't find very often! I am looking forward to meeting her again soon!

It is the perfect escape from the big city, both because it is on an island and because it is a secluded but not lonely place and at the same time very close to the town.
Evelyn is a great company, always up for a laugh and a joke and will chat about anything and everything. She doesn't demand perfection; he just expects you work with independency. Evelyn has 3 times more energy than you…. She has a big spirit of superaction . Somehow she finds time for doing everything, and takes care of us as volunteers. I have a great deal of respect for him.
It's also nice to be left alone to take care of yourself during the week. You can take walks in the area, bath in the beach going by bus or walk to the nearest cafeteria in the village about 15 minutes away. You have a bus in fron of her house to go to Santa Cruz.
Evelyn is always generous when it comes to food... she takes you into account, and tries to ensure that you have what you need by sharing everything.
There is also the orchard, the fruit trees... a luxury to be able to go out and collect.
If you want to improve your English or German, it's perfect.... Evelyn has a great listening capacity, patience to understand what you mean...... great teacher. She is the perfect teacher. She is understanding and speaks at the pace you need... and if you are not understanding, she will soon find out :-).
I was lucky to share my time there with her and also time alone. And I have brought back memories of both experiences that remain in my memory forever.
I would repeat without hesitation.
