I am very grateful for my first Workaway Experience being so amazing thanks to Patricia, Iker and their two sweet daughters.
From the moment I arrived I felt completely welcomed and at home. Even though the family had a hard time due to ilnesses the first few days, they still tried to give me some tips for the area and we talked quite a bit about
… read more their region, life and whatsoever else.
Both Iker and Patricia are amazing cooks and I always had more than enough delicious food. Helping in the kitchen was always very funny.
The communication was always very easy and I spontaneously could go on a lot of walks and trips. The Nature arround Barrika is absolutely breathtaking, hiking is a must!
For almost two weeks I had my own rooms with more than enough space and even a (almost) private bathroom.
I helped out in their garden with some easy DIY carpentry, cleaning up some wood piles and picking weeds.
Thank your for everything, I hope our paths will eventually cross again some day. ☺️

We are always super lucky with our workawayers and Ruben was not an exception. He was really on top of the game with his carpentry skills but he was also a super nice person to have around. He was so easy going, sweet and a courious mind. We had fun talking about life , eating chocolate and touring Biscay looking for wood for our project :)

Thank you so much for letting us stay at your amazing (Pinterest) house and making us feel at home from the very first day. Felt like a dream entering your home; lovely people, beautifully designed house with all the little details, large green garden... We enjoyed all of your delicious food, especially the traditional basque
… read more one! Patricia and Iker took us to the beach and to the metro station, introduced us to their neighbourhood and friends and all the 'must see' things. One time we were in a hurry to metro and Patricia still found time to make us some 'to go snacks' which was really lovely! Also, we had the best time with the girls, all their jokes and shows, doing millions of puzzles with them, singing and inventing songs and fooling around! Unforgettable, really! We loved their open minded, honest and genuine attitude!❤ a big THANK YOU!
You should know that from now on you have a special place in our hearts! Hugs and kisses from us!❤❤❤

What a wonderful family! We spent 2 very nice weeks with Iker, Patricia, Joane and Libe.
We enjoyed the time together very much and had our privacy too. The Room is absolutely cosy and lovely designed. (by the way..the whole house is an inspiration)
Praticia and Iker always provided us with super delicious food and showed us typical Basque
… read more dishes. In addition, they always had tips in store and we had great evenings at the dining table. The two girls..what can we say..they are absolutely cute! Two super well behaved, sporty, active and open minded girls. We had a lot of fun fooling around together. Chris was surprised by Joane's chess skills and Libe and Joanne taught me a cool new board game "Sequence".
The work was satisfying and we could see progress quickly. We helped them with the roofing of the garden house, the sanding and painting of the patio and the building of the new trellis for the kiwis.
The environment in which the four of them live is stunning. We made many beautiful trips to the beach, went hiking in the surrounding national parks and visited the lovley towns and villages. There are climbing rocks right next to the house and even though we can't surf, it's certainly a paradise for surfers. There is definitely a lot to discover.

Our two weeks + with Chris and Clara have been wonderful, I second all the positive and beautiful words others hosts say about them.
They are wonderful people: hard working, independent, always willing to help and with an ability to "read" the needs and the mood of our family and adapt to them and contribute with what is needed.

… read more as they normally are, surprisingly opened to them from day one as Chris and Clara were warm and sweet with them and give them attention : they look at their school projects with them, Chris play chess with Joane, laugh at their "shows", Clara baked delicious bread every day...
We have lovely evenings around the dinner table and laugh a lot about silly things.
Thanks Chris and Clara . You left an unforgettable mark in our family. We wish you all the best in your new life back in Germany.

Patricia, Iker, y sus pequeñas, Libe y Joane son una familia encantadora. He pasado ocho días con ellos y me han hecho sentir desde el primer momento cómo un integrante más de la familia.
Su casa se encuentra ubicada en un barrio residencial hermoso, tranquilo y cerca de varias playas lindas que puedes visitar andando. El proyecto que están
… read more desarrollado para su hogar es fantástico, cada espacio, elemento y detalle esta pensado en el bienestar familiar. El interior, obra del buen gusto de Patricia, mezcla el estilo vintage con modernista para que te sientas acogido, en calma y con muy buena energía. Iker se ha encargado que el jardín también sea un espacio importante en la vida de la familia. Ha plantado muchos arboles para mejorar la calidad de su hogar, dedicó espacios para juegos de sus niñas, tiene su propio huerto y planea construir un sistema de recolección de agua de lluvia para abastecer un pequeño estanque y su huerto.
Con Iker principalmente he ayudando a aislar el sonido del paso de los coches que circulan por la carretera colocando maderas y tierra bajo la cerca de la casa, plantando arboles y cerrando parte de un muro. Con Particia colgamos algunas cortinas en su nueva habitación y otros detalles en el nuevo baño.
Patricia e Iker han viajado por muchos sitios por lo que si deseas conversaciones de viajes les aseguro que no faltarán, son dos personas de mente abierta y con mucha cultura general por lo que se puede divagar en muchos temas. Puedes indagar a ellos acerca de la modalidad que han elegido para la educación de sus niñas, creo que es uno de los puntos que mejor describen a ellos dos como padres. Además, Patricia es una excelente cocinera y hará que deleites con sus platos.
Libe y Joane son dos niñas muy tiernas y divertidas, son como decimos en Argentina, "culo y calzón". Las verás siempre jugando juntas. Al ser mi primera experiencia con niños tenía ciertos temores al inicio de cómo podía encajar, sin embargo, me he sentido muy a gusto con ellas dos. Me han permitido ser parte de la familia sin ningún reparo y nos hemos divertido jugando y enseñandome algunas palabras en Euskera. Ya se puede ver en ellas un potencial muy grande y creo que mucho de ello se debe a la apertura mental que obtienen a través de su educación y los intercambios culturales que experimentan gracias a su padres.
Estoy encantado de haberlos conocido, he vivido unos días muy felices con ellos y me he llevo en mi mochila muchas enseñanzas de la crianza y la vida familiar.

Mis hijas a las que les suele costar conectar han estado tambien super a gusto con Luis desde el primer momento. El no tenia experiencia con niños y niñas pero tengo que decir que se le dan muy bien porque les trata con respeto y dulzura.
Es muy bonito ver tambien el tipo de viaje que ha elegido hacer Luis, y desde donde lo ha decidido hacer, buscando experiencias, no tan solo lugares, absorbiendo momentos, historias y vivencias para incorporarlas en la propia construcción de su persona.
Con respecto al trabajo que ha hecho en casa mayormente en el jardin estamos muy contentos: siempre dispuesto, con iniciativa, perfeccionista ... y siempre adaptandose a nuestras necesidades.
Nos ha dado pena verle marchar y esperamos que en un futuro nos pueda visitar otra vez.
