Simona was wonderful to work with. Her happy vibe and willingness to help guests throughout all the activities were such a great example of someone who really enjoys what they do. We were all super impressed with her cooking skills too! :)

The job experience was beautiful and entertaining!
I stayed for a little bit more than a month cooking for groups and taking people to night and daily tours getting to know Barcelona's food, culture and amazing people!
I warmly reccomend it, as well for the kindness and good listener John was. ✨

It was an incredible experience!!! My initial idea was to stay 2.5/3 months but since I found myself very well I decided to extend and stay for 4 months.

You will be able to meet many interesting people and make friends for life.
The environment has always been friendly, I have never felt uncomfortable.
You'll share the spaces with other volunteers, in my case they have all become dear friends and I never felt alone.

The work involves a lot of talking to and taking care of large groups, and a lot of going out - if that doesn't sound like something you would enjoy, then don't apply! Personally, I found the work fun, and it left me a lot of time to explore the city and its surroundings during the daytime.
There was only one (slight) negative about my experience - although all the hostel staff and volunteers are lovely (and many became my close friends over the course of the workaway), the hostel staff room, where workawayers stay, is small, and the wifi connection is intermittent. However, I didn't find that this impacted my experience too much, as I always spent my days out in the city.

First of all I would like starting on saying that this was my first work away and it was unbelievable. I would like to describe this experience dividing it in 3 parts, the accommodation, the job and one for John the host.

… read more The environment there felt really cozy, especially because of the people.
The job was a bit challenging for me at the beginning, I had to guide all the guests to make dinner all together and than go for a pubcrawl in the wonderful Barcelona. however, in a couple of weeks I had already learn how to do it, and it turned out easier that it seemed. The important part is that it gives you the opportunity to meet all the guests, people from allover the world, and have so much fun with them. I grew a lot by doing this Job, i improved my public speaking, my interpersonal skills, management skills and learn so much about other culture. For me it was a blessing.
As it was meeting and working with John ( the host ), he is the most amazing person, he helped me every time that I had troubles with the job, he was really understanding and most of all it was and he still is a very good friend.

I fell in love with Barcelona during my time there which was hugely influenced by the amazing experiences I had working with the hostel. The work involved provides an incredibly fun and exciting way to get to know the best parts of the city. I always looked forward to starting my shifts and always felt assured that I could go to John with any questions I may have. I feel incredibly lucky to have gotten the chance to work with John and get to know him and his friends, and I cannot wait to return!

However, this work is definitly not for everybody. You need to be VERY social and between work & catching some sleep, you will not have loads of time to discover the city. Additionally you need to be very self-organised.
My experience was okay/good, but not excellent because the hostel where i stayed and lived for this time, had/has some really big issues (lack of cleanliness, how they treat workawayers, lack of communication with the management...).
I hope this factors will improve in the future.
