Especially camping was such a highlight for me.
As well as that I really enjoyed spending time with Wes and going on adventures with him. Most of the time you forget that he is only 4 years old, because he can communicate his feelings so well already and is really considerate. You will love playing or going to the beach with him and spending time or cooking with Mika.

How blessed we were to have Yayoi as part of our little family on Phillip Island for 5 weeks! She is the most gentle and kind person, so generous and patient, always happy to spend time and play with Wes and helping me out with the house chores, showing initiative and preparing the most delicious meals! Wes loved her cooking and even learnt some
… read more basic Japanese. Yayoi has a passion for nature and wildlife, and sharing that time in nature with her was our highlight. She is also so creative, and made the cutest little postcards for Wes to find in the letterbox , absolutely gorgeous.
She was also very independent and made her own way to visit friends in the state. She bravely practiced her English and got so much more confident! We miss her, and we can't wait to see her again.

Actually, I was a little nervous before I came to here (I am not native) and I got sick because of the wether and my clothes was poor prepared on my first week. Even though such a situation, they always were kindness, caring, respect my feelings and patient. That's why my English improved(I never got homesick), my body got strong (I haven't got sick since that) and always really enjoyed my slow life. I LOVE their life and phillip island. Their house and my private room were comfortable and creative. Her drawing, animal pictures and cooking, to play with Wes were given me great inspiration. I was glad that they always enjoyed my Japanese cuisines and my letters. For me, playing with Wes, cooking, do housework, gardening were all not work. Because they made my dream come true to spend my life like an Australian.

I felt so relaxed the whole time I was there and really enjoyed playing pretend games with Wes as he made up all the rules 😭❤️ it was also super nice to recognize all the time I had to get back into things that I used to love to do like knitting. I really enjoyed the nights were we would be in the space together both artwork and knitting🫶🏽 I know I will see you guys again.Comentário

The hours I spent helping were actually very enjoyable as I mined Wes and we went on little trips or bike rides, or just played at home. Mika was always supportive, really easy-going, and she really aimed at getting the most out of my stay for me. She shared a lot of tips about beautiful spots on the island, cool things to do, and especially where and when to spot wildlife. I was there during whale season, and I'm beyond grateful to have seen quite a few and to have learned so much about these fascinating giants. I was allowed to use their surfboard, go for bike rides with their bikes, and take the binoculars to go whale watching. I simply loved my time on the island. Seeing her smile with so much joy after seeing her first whales was just priceless. Anna is inspiring and is always living the most of everyday, and night! Going on evening beach walks, surfing in any condition, and really living in the moment. She played with so much enthusiasm and care with Wes, he loved having her around.
She was also able to prepare some delicious vegan gluten free meals and cookies, which we loved!!

And Wesley ! He is a kind, intelligent, adventurous and inadvertently very funny boy. He kept me entertained with Octonauts, books, hilarious games of hide and go seek, beach trips, boulder climbing at squeaky beach and lego building !

During the time we did share our house with her, Lara spent lots of time with my son Wes and he absolutely adored her, playing for hours together! Lara is passionate about nature and the ocean and that really showed, we went to see the penguins and she went exploring on the bicycle, covering great distances to see the island's nature. I'm impressed!! Lara went above and beyond during her Workaway with her, and any host would be so lucky to have her stay with them. We can't wait for her to visit again, hopefully to see whales here! My experience staying with Mika and Wes on Phillip Island was absolutely magical.
I had the privilege of staying in their beautiful home from Mid-April to Mid-May of this year. Though my experience was a unique one, due to unforeseen circumstances that meant I was mainly dog sitting the beautiful Juno and looking after the home, this gave me the
… read more opportunity to fully experience island life. From this, I can wholeheartedly say that I fell in love with it, and you will too. It is such a serene place, with beautiful nature all around and unique wildlife to be in constant awe of, especially if you’re natively a city-dweller like me!
I did get the more conventional Workaway experience described in Mikala’s profile as well however, towards the end of my stay, though I do feel that my using the word “conventional” massively underrates it.
Mika is so kind and welcoming, always including me in family activities and adventures, and always engaging in conversations around her impressive career and accomplishments. She is an absolute inspiration.
Wesley is an absolute gem of a boy! So bright, funny, and considerate. I always enjoyed playing elaborate and imaginative games with him under the Banksia trees of the garden.
Overall, I can confidently say that this was the best first Workaway experience I could’ve ever asked for. I have Mikala, Wes, the cuddly and dearly missed Juno, and all of the wonderful and accommodating people on the Island to thank for that.
You will love it here too! I can also definitely say that I will be returning one day.
