Erica and her family were such incredible people to spend time with while in Spain from September 30-November 21. They are such an accommodating couple and I quickly felt at home with their good communication, friendliness, and the incredible Spanish meals.

… read more kids who I loved spending time with. Eira is headstrong and a natural leader, always coming up with activities herself when I had run out of ideas. She is fluent in English and her ability to switch between English, Spanish, and Catalan is incredible to see! Bernat is giggly and curious and prefers to speak in Catalan, but he will understand spoken English just fine (although he did begin to speak a bit of English too:)). Seeing how they interacted and played in their “no-screens” environment was refreshing and reminded me of my childhood with my little brother. If any potential workawayers have that underlying love and respect for children, you will do just fine!
The other extended family members live nearby, and every single one of them made me feel welcomed and was willing to chat from time to time which I loved!
To make a trip like this, even if temporary, can be sometimes scary, and I absolutely had my doubts and fears before my arrival, but once I got to their home and met all of them, those fears washed away. Erica and Carlos worked with me to be the best au-pair that I could be for their two children and encouraged me to travel (on weekends when the storms weren’t too bad haha). I was able to see a good amount of Spanish sites both nearby and in other cities during my stay, but even their home beach town was lovely and I enjoyed wandering in my free time!
I even feel a bit emotional writing this because of how much of a positive impact this family has left on me, especially during this time in my life. I will forever be grateful to them for this experience. Thank you!Feito pelo anfitrião para o Workawayer (Madison)

With a very good tone of voice and easy-to-understand English, she has managed to get the little one to say his first complete sentences in English. She is very communicative with us and always keeps us informed so we are aware of any changes or needs.
With a high level of Spanish, I hope she has been able to improve a bit more with the practice with us.
Moreover, she has helped us at home with the laundry and another tasks, and has prepared delicious cookies and American breakfasts, as well as Korean dishes, with great adaptation despite not finding the original ingredients.
We hope you were able to enjoy Spain despite not having the best weather during your weeks with us, you can come back to visit us when you want! Thank you so much for all! ;)

This was my first ever experience with Workaway, so naturally I was very nervous at the start… but as soon as I arrived at Erica and Carlos’ home my nerves melted away. They welcomed me like I was a member of their own family and made me feel at home. For the 3 months that I was with them, they included me in all of their family activities and I
… read more never once felt like an outsider among them or any of their extended family. Erica was so kind to help me enroll in a local Spanish course, and would practice Spanish with me when we were together which helped me start to build more confidence with the language. The children (Eira and Bernat) were so fun to play with, and ALWAYS had me laughing! I miss them so much already, as they felt like little siblings to me. I genuinely loved being around them so it never felt like work for me--it simply felt like I was spending time with family, and I always wanted to be around! It is amazing how much the kids love to read, and I loved to read some of my favorite childhood books to them. They are both such smart children, and it was amazing to see them improve their English more and more over the course of my stay. Before my arrival, I had no idea how these 3 months would go, but it ended up being one of the best experiences of my life...I feel that I’ve made a connection for life, and I send deep thanks towards Erica and Carlos and the rest of their family. When the day came that I had to leave Vinaròs, it was definitely a very emotional experience for me. I would have stayed longer if it weren’t for the 90 day maximum with my passport!
