Hello, Workawayers! :) My name is Dejana, but you can call me Dee. I just had my first wonderful experience with Workaway volunteers this past summer, at my property in sunny Montenegro; this made me think--why not utilize this fabulous platform for connecting with folks travelling through Canada, as well?

Unlike my rural property in the hills of Montenegro, this time, we are talking about urban, condo living in one of the biggest cities in North America! If you are a creative soul, looking for the perfect spot to facilitate inspiration, while exploring a major North American city--ours might be the perfect spot for you! My teen daughter and I would be happy to host you, in exchange for helping us take care of the space, and bringing it up to snuff.

I am a single mom that is still in recovery post-car accident (I was hit by a car as a pedestrian at a crosswalk), so many tasks are still difficult for me. We would appreciate help from a handy individual who would enjoy bringing our space into good repair (with basic home maintenance/DIY skills), and enjoy helping clean and organize the many instruments, vintage books, and random arts & crafts materials that have been collected over the years.

A bit more about the apartment you'd be sharing with us:

Prior to COVID, the space was envisioned not just as a safe, creative haven for us to live and create in, but also to host our friends, family, and other musicians and artists for wonderful moments of exchange! The space has seen many music jams and intimate music performances and parties in the past, as well as art jams and art workshops. Let's breathe some new life into it together!

You would be staying in the living room / open-concept creative studio & office space, which features:
- a large library
- a computer station with a Thunderbolt monitor, completely equipped for recording (audio interface, condenser microphones, monitors, etc.)
- multiple instruments (electric piano, electric Roland drum set, electric guitars, bas guitars, gypsy jazz acoustic, ukulele, trumpet, accordion... guitar and bass amps)
- additional studio/desk space for creating (writing, painting, drawing, printing, sculpting, DIY and handicrafts--we've done it all!)
- Samsung Frame TV for entertainment
- We just got a new extremely comfortable, large sectional couch upgrade, which you would be sleeping on (see photos for details).

This opportunity is best suited, but by no means limited to artists, writers, musicians, digital nomads, and creatives in general. No matter who you are, you can enjoy the amenities, spend quiet time reading, watching films, preparing meals, going for a swim and/or sauna, and exploring the city and the culture of Toronto!

The condo itself is a fully furnished 2bdrm 2 bath 1,100sqft space on the subway line and close to HWY for easy commuting. Free underground parking is included (in case you need it), as well as free in-house laundry washer/dryer, balcony/patio with seating, and saltwater pool, sauna and gym to help you stay active. Central AC to help keep you cool throughout the summer and warm during the winter!

Steps from restaurants, the Beltline Trail, Cedervale Park, Forest Hill Village, 7 min walk to Eglinton West subway station (or bus stop on the doorstep), 2 min drive to Allen Rd., minutes to Yorkdale Mall and 15-20 min subway ride or drive downtown with the benefits of a quiet neighbourhood.

Kitchen includes a large chef's fridge, all recent appliances and is fully equipped, including Vitamix, KitchenAid, Airfrier, Juicer and more.

Daily access to salt-water pool, sauna, small gym. Recently renovated building interiors and lobby.

I have been living in Canada for 30+ years, but am originally from the Balkans (former Yugoslavia). I would be delighted to share with you all that Toronto has to offer, as well as bits from my birth culture! In Toronto, I can connect you with and help you explore live music, art, nature, food scene, and more! Just let me know what your interests are, and we'll make it happen :) English language practice can obviously be part of the exchange. I have also worked in tech / design / research for almost 30 years, and am happy to mentor in that area... I also have skills as a musician/singer/songwriter, as well as cooking, handicrafts (knitting/crochet), and I am sure we can find even more areas of common interest! :)

Our space could use a loving touch from a handy DIY-type that thrives in creative spaces and can work both together and independently to bring ours into a state of good repair. Help is needed with general home maintenance and DIY tasks, general cleaning, decluttering, organization and upkeep of our space. Happy to provide English language practice, and it would be a nice bonus if you spoke one of the romance languages my daughter and I are interested in learning! (Spanish, French, Italian, Portugese)
Acomodação
As noted earlier in the description, you would be staying in the creative living room / open-concept studio space; we just got a new extremely comfortable, large sectional couch upgrade, which you would be sleeping on (see photos for details). Lots of fluffy bedding and pillows or whatever suits you best can be available to make you comfortable!

Note: this is a common living room space, and although you will have privacy at night for sleeping, and quiet time can be arranged at necessary times, there will be traffic throughout the day as this is a shared space (kitchen use, etc.).

We can co-create the meal plan you are comfortable with, as well! It would be preferred if you could prepare at least some of your own meals from ingredients that would be provided. We can arrange all this to your needs and your satisfaction!
