Due to the Coronavirus everything has been pushed back and we are well and far behind as we missed our large window of opportunity for construction during the dry season but we do need people for the more hands on tasks. Building gardens, labyrinth, designing escape room, puzzles, micro homes, pond builders, etc. We have a large workforce available for heavy labor jobs, we're looking for volunteers and maybe even paid positions for unique skills.
We are doing so much it's hard to narrow it down so I'm going to do my best at simplifying what we need help on right now.
1. Building a farm, garden, vivero. Aquaponics, vertical gardening, etc. We have amazingly fertile land and we need some people who are well versed in agriculture to help us design and build something that could feed guests, workers and help out the local community.
2. Ponds, springs, water ways. We are looking for someone who is skilled in pond design, it seems to be a hard skill to find locally, we have an unlimited supply of water under our feet, we would like to tap in to it for swimming holes, ponds, water falls and hot springs.
3. A truly unique aspect, something you wont find anywhere else in the world is going to be our labyrinth/escape room puzzle maze. Imagine harry potter meets zelda, doctor who and takes a trip with di vinci to build something mind blowing. This requires a unique individuals, enthusiast, mechanical engineers, tinkerers. We're building puzzles, changing environments, a series of escape room style challenges over 2-3 acres of outdoor mazes. Inside you'll find interactive art pieces, puzzles, an awesome experience. We expect this project to take a few years to build as it will be a unique blend of nature and modern architecture.
4. We're constructing micro homes on the property for guests, ourselves and our workawayers. We could use people with good construction and design knowledge to help along side local construction crews.
We are building a one of a kind retreat style resort that will be used to employ and house displaced families as well as offer a relaxing but adventurous environment for everyone. Hot Springs, Lazy Rivers, Tree House hammocks, Nature trails, we want to have it all along with professionally prepped farm to table meals.
On the non profit side we will help people who have experienced trauma such as assault, conflict, PTSD, etc. We will also transform in to a Children's camp annually and give children who would otherwise be on the streets, a place to be a kid, learn and grow. The excess from our organic farms will be used to provide the local non profits with food so they can continue feeding the homeless and community in need. We also wish to help restore the local flora and fauna by planting and seeding the once deforested national park adjacent to our property and by having an animal sanctuary for the animals that can no longer survive on their own in the wild due to injury or domestication.
We are in the very early stages right now and our current set up is a rural farm house. Beautiful area but it's not the 5 stars we hope it will be in a few years just yet.
-Not so quick overview-
What are we doing:
We are working to build a sustainable eco friendly resort and spa. The inspiration is part Bali and part spiritual awakening with dreams of hot springs, a lazy river, zip lines, raised paths through an old protected forest, a rotunda for spiritual centering and plant medicine based ceremonies. An organic farm will be establish for fresh farm to table eating, float tanks will be constructed for sensory deprivation, numerous eco friendly lodges will be placed strategically around the property to offer privacy while being intertwined with nature.
Why we are doing this:
We want to help people, the environment and the community, this project give us the ability to do just that.
We will employ and house displaced families, we will offer therapeutic retreats and get aways to Veterans of any Nation, as well as people who have lived with trauma, guilt, PTSD and more. We will occasionally turn the property in to a camp for kids who have known nothing but poverty with the hopes of giving them an experience to look forward to every year, skills and tools to move forward in life.
With our farmed foods we will donate the excess to the community through non profits that focus on feeding the needy.
We want to help plant and regrow forests as we are backed up to a national park that has been partially deforested.
Who are we looking for:
You! We have a strong need for skilled workers in architecture, construction, carpentry, pool and pond design, etc.
We put a high emphasis on good honest people that are easy to get along with. We don't have abrasive personalities and we expect the same from you. We won't tolerate fighting or inconsiderate behavior.
We do expect everyone to do their fair share of work and nothing more than that.
We love self motivators.
What are we offering:
We are offering an experience to be part of something amazing, to experience a new culture and make new life long friends. We are offering fun, excitement, adventure, relaxation and the ability to learn and grow with us.
The environment we wish to have for our work-awayers is fun, exciting, etc. As a business owners, managers and developers that have worked our way from the bottom, we understand that the MOST important part of a good working environment is to have happy workers. We wish to build a working environment that people want to come to, one that doesn't feel like work at all because honestly, it shouldn't! This isn't a job we are recruiting for, this is the way life should be. Looking forward to meeting you all.
A few extra notes:
We will provide breakfast and housing a well as occasional home cooked meals. We only guarantee the ingredients to make breakfast but we all enjoy cooking, eating and feeding friends, so the chances are we will have a lot of family style meals together. We'd also never put anyone in a position of struggle, if your budget is very limited, please let us know and we'll make sure you're taken care of. The Finca itself is loaded with fruit trees and you are welcome to anything that grows there. Sometimes things at the Finca can be slow, it's not always a steady pace of work with projects, be ok with relaxing every now and then and just enjoying the moment.
About us as people and not just the facts:
Shane - I am from the U.S and Australia, I'm 37 and I spent 10 years in the US Army. I have worked with non profits as a chair member, volunteer, fund raiser and sponsor for a little over 15yrs. I'm an easy going guy though I do have the typical Veteran style dark humor and will joke with EVERYONE at some point. I am passionate about what I do and with helping those who need it. It's hard to get me riled up and even though I'm no stranger to conflict, I try to diffuse and avoid it at all cost. I am still learning Spanish and taking classes with local instructors. I have lived and traveled just about everywhere, I have a spinal cord injury which prevents me from living the life I used to but it is also what has lead me to the point of where I am in life now. I enjoy camping, exploring new places, finding new adventures, I occasionally volunteer at the dog shelter and force myself to work out at times. I am a Padi Staff Instructor for Scuba diving as well as adaptive dive instructor and diver. If we're having a conversation and a dog passes, I'm probably going to vanish mid sentence to chase after the random dog for pets and selfies.
This is my second large development project, my first was a Hotel/Hostel in Uganda, Africa that I co own, helped designed and construct from the ground up.
Andrew - I am from Canada and I am fluent in Spanish and have several audio courses here I can share for free as well as offering my time as a tutor while we work together. I am a sail boat captain and a freediving instructor and willing to offer my expertise in both those subjects. I have worked as a designer, writer, and entrepreneur and have traveled extremely extensively for a long period of my life and would consider myself an expert of sourcing products in foreign countries and starting the sort of enterprise you will be volunteering at. I have lived in Colombia for more than 3 years now and traveled extensively here and can offer great advice on where to go. I own a high end imported furniture store and galleria in Medellin.
Ausra - I am from Lithuania, I mastered in fashion, design and biology, I enjoy being active outdoors. I always want to try new things, I love camping, painting, going to museums, art exhibits, meeting new people and learning different cultures. I speak English, Lithuanian and can understand Russian and I am taking classes to learn Spanish.
I want to open a Non Profit Vintage and clothing shop in Medellin.

There's so much to learn here, you will be working along side locals, refugees, expats, travelers and people of all walks. The language, food and way of life here is worth the trip alone. We guarantee you will leave here feeling satisfied with your experience. It will be fun and we hope it will open your eyes to new possibilities.
***Things that must be said***
Sadly this has to be said. We have had a rash of bad workawayers and a few amazing ones who have made this all worth while.
The biggest issues we've experienced are people exaggeration their qualifications, lying about their abilities and/or refusing to do what they said they were coming to do.
We are accepting volunteer work positions, even though we have designed a relaxing and cool place to be, there is still work that needs to be done. We are not a party hostel or hostel at all actually. We're currently working out of a rural finca(farm) that we are turning in to a resort like environment. We have fun and socialize but we are still task oriented and will require you to do some work.
It really is heart breaking to us that we even need to ask this of people, since for us, being considerate and honest is just our natural character.
We opened ourselves up to trust people at their word who in turn, used us or in some cases, made more work for us by trashing the place, urinating on walls, killing plants, breaking equipment, littering and one almost killed our dog through pure negligence.
Please and I cannot stress this enough, do not be that person.
Please do not apply if:
-you are not willing to lend a hand
-are just looking to party 24/7
-can't respect other peoples things or space
-you have a 'not my job' mentality
-your profile doesn't reflect your actual self or skillset
-you are not willing to work
Please do apply if:
-you are self motivating and don't need to be guided on everything
-you are considerate and respectful
-you have common sense
-you are a decent person

Housing, shared dorms, private rooms, bunk beds, full and queen size beds, couples and family accommodations.
We are 1hr (sometimes more) outside of Medellin, Colombia. The weather here is between 72-80F (22-30c) year round but this has been a HOT year, luckily it's cooling down now (27 Feb). It is known as the city of spring. The town the farm is located in is called Venecia, it is the gateway to Antioquia and centralized between 4 major areas. It is a small, not very touristy town. There are 3 friendly dogs that live at the property.
We have 3 sets of accommodations,
Our primary is the farm house, it is a 100+ year old duplex that has been in use and maintained since it's construction. It is in surprisingly good shape for it's age and is in the heart of the farm, it is quiet, peaceful and spacious. The rooms there are private rooms, shared rooms and bunks. Phase 1 of our project is to revamp this house to make it a more comfortable environment for our workawayers. This is the main workaway location and there is little to no internet unless from hotspot.
The city stays are generally limited to a week at a time.
The second space is my partner Andrew's loft, it is a massive high end galleria located in Medellin and offers a shared space.
Third is our place (Shane and Ausra's) apartment. We have 2 extra bedrooms each with it's own bath and shower. We have 2 super cool, hypoallergenic dogs here as well. If you wish to stay here, please be responsible, help out with chores without asking and be ok with taking the dogs out for a walk on the lead every now and then if we're away on errands. We often work 12+hr days and many times we take the dogs with us on errands but sometimes we have to leave them home.
In your time off you are welcome to travel back and forth the the city of Medellin or anywhere else!
The internet at the finca is unreliable and often non existent as it is hotspotted from a phone, it is something we are working on. Internet is available in the city.
