Detalhes
Descrição
We're a local NGO based in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, focused on marine and coastal conservation. The organization was established due to local marine scientists' growing concerns about the degrading conditions of the unique coastal and marine environments, and our goal is to help and inspire local communities to live alongside the marine environment in a sustainable way.
This year some of our big projects include:
1) Rehabilitating mangrove habitat
2) Establishing Marine Protected Areas (MPA)
3) Expanding solid waste management programs
3) Coral transplantation projects
4) Planning and building eco tourism villages
...among many other exciting initiatives!
Volunteers will be able to participate in a variety of activities related to these projects depending on current needs as well as the volunteer's skillset. Some activities include planting trees, data collection and ecological surveys, supporting in the creation of grant proposals, coral monitoring and waste collection.
Additionally, we are looking for skilled carpenters/floorers that can help renovate a country house in Tomohon as well as support in the building of an information centre and a mangrove track that will support eco-tourism activities. This is a job suited for someone who is a carpenter by trade or has significant experience in carpentry.
This job is not at our main office in Manado but rather in the mountainside of North Sulawesi, and in Kapitu Village, the location of one of the primary eco-tourism destinations. This is a beautiful location to stay at, with peaceful, cool winds in the hot days, a beautiful view of the Lokon volcano and you will be surrounded by hills of beautiful greenery. This spot was my favorite to stay in! (I am a volunteer writing this). There is also opportunity for the work to be varied for a long-term stay, as you can also join the team on any of the current projects that is of interest to you.Tipos de ajuda e oportunidades de aprendizado

For those that are fond of scuba diving and snorkeling, you can explore the beauty of a variety of world class dive spots including Bunaken National Park, Manado Bay, Lembeh islands, and Bangka Island. Each of these sites offers a unique opportunity to experience the marine wildlife of corals, schooling fish, turtles, nudibranchs and even reef sharks. There are also opportunities to enjoy mountaineering in Klabat, Mahawu, and Lokon. Volunteers also like to visit Tangkoko Nature Reserve, just an hour from Manado and habitat to tarsiers, famous for their small bodies and large eyes.
At the end of the work day, workawayers who enjoy experiencing local culinary can taste Manado foods such as: Tinutuan, Bubur Manado (porridge complete with some vegetables and served with hot chilly pepper), Nasi Jaha or Jaha Rice, (sticky rice mixed with red onion and ginger cooked around bamboo toast and coconut milk), and Klappertart (Coconut tart). Workawayers can even try "extreme foods" such as tikus (rats), snakes, paniki (bats).Mais alguns detalhes
