Tom is the most kind, respectful, tidy and skilled person you could have the good fortune to meet. He came at the perfect time when I needed a lot of help at my house and property. One of the first things he did was repair an old antique door handle that was half broken and not working properly. He renovated an upstairs bathroom, he taught me how
… read more to use the power-washer properly, repaired and re-sealed slate terrace, sorted out my shed and put up a tool pegboard, fixed up the gym, made unique tree guards to protect fruit trees and manna gum from the koala, found me a kayak hoist on marketplace and then put it up in my carport. The list of maintenance jobs he did is too many to list, but they have all brought me great joy. We were both on a low carb, high protein diet, so eating together was very easy. He introduced me to the egg roll in a bowl recipe and it has become a favourite go to dinner for me. All the locals who met him described him as a "top bloke". He quickly became part of the community and loved by all. He enjoyed new experiences and came along to Yoga class. We went to the Metung Hot Springs. Tom was here for 3 months and I will miss him.

Raf was a lovely young man who tried hard. He did an amazing job cleaning the garlic in preparation for drying, he cleaned the house gutters with two other workawayers and he staked the tomatoes and many other jobs in the vege garden. All the best for your future Raf.
Colin and Max were lovely, respectful young men who were a great help. They cleaned all the gutters on the house and tackled some other difficult jobs including grounds work. We wish them the best for the rest of their journey in Australia.

It's AMAZING!
Everything is exactly as described, Kirsten is super cool and communicative, the tasks are fun and neither too hard, nor to easy, the food is incredible fresh and delicious and all the animals on the property made us feel like a Disney princess!

I was able to stay there for a total of 4 weeks and thoroughly enjoyed my time. She adjusted my work to suit my needs. The island, the house, the garden, and the surrounding nature are simply stunning. You can explore the island well on walks or kayak tours.

I enjoyed my first Workaway experience at Swan Cove. The tasks were varied. I was free to manage my day how I wanted. The area is stunning. It is on the east side of the island. It is quiet and you get treated with a wonderful morning sunrise. You won't get bored of the wildlife. You can even feed the birds.

With Kirsten, I had some nice Kundalini Yoga practice and I learned some cooking tricks.

I spent wonderful 3,5 weeks with Kirsten, Tony and Mia in their beautiful place on Raymond Island.
The work was varied from painting, cleaning the grassland around the house, cleaning the 2 cottages, weeding, watering the garden and young trees. The family is very welcoming and open, I really felt part of the family and integrated. We did
… read more different excursions, from kayaking, sailing, to swimming in rivers, visiting markets and I enjoyed many of their great yoga classes. The property is very charming, kangaroos come into the garden and on the beach, wild rabbits, lots of birds, sometimes wallabies and a short bikeride away you see lots of koalas. I was lucky to see the bioluminescence in the lake, it was stunning. Tony fished prawns for us on several occasions, so we could enjoy fresh prawns. What a fantastic experience this was! Raymond Island is a perfect place if you are looking for a beautiful, peaceful place away from the pulse of the big city and want to experience Australia’s amazing wildlife up close. I feel I have to put out a small note of warning: keep an eye on your work, as there is a high risk of otherwise getting sidetracked by the beauty of nature, nice trips, interesting conversations, and a (super organised) pantry full of local and homemade delicacies. Kirsten and Tony were also so kind to take me to some of the local markets and also offered me to join their yoga classes.
Thank you for a lovely time Kirsten, Tony and Mia! I will definitely contact you, if I pass by your corner of Australia again. Kirsten, I had so much fun lying on the floor practising your new yoga poses with you. Tony, I see first prize gleaming in the horizon (let me know how it goes at the fair). I chose to contact Kirsten initially because her place seemed like the calm, friendly retreat I needed after a hurried and somewhat stressful time of my journey. This volunteer opportunity far exceeded my expectations!
After I got a pick up from the Bairnsdale train station I settled into an upstairs room in the family’s gorgeous and unique home.
… read more Sharing space with Mia was easy; she’s a polite, smart kid. I loved eating fresh picked veggies in Kirsten’s healthy meals and sampling Tony’s homemade relishes, granola, olives, and much more.
In the week and a half I was there I washed windows, picked up yard waste, helped clean the rental cottages, and did some painting. The work was more than fair, considering I got plenty of time to go kayaking among the swans, check out the koalas on a nature walk, and browse through as much of Kirsten’s library as possible. The bird life here is incredible and it was fun hand-feeding the crimson rosellas and finally getting a look at the tawny frogmouth owl.
If you are interested in yoga I highly recommend visiting Swan Cove. Both Tony and Kirsten are passionate about yoga and I learned so much about the practice and philosophies of different disciplines. I felt lucky to be able to join in a couple classes.
The best thing about this experience, however, was truly feeling like part of the family. I wish I would have had time to stay longer!Share our family life and enjoy the lovely laid back city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
