IMPORTANT:
It's heating season again, and the caravans are heated by wood-burning stoves ( I have CO alarms, too). So now we can only host people who can light a fire and use a wood-burning stove confidently. And who are familiar with other basics of countryside living: using a gas bottle stove for cooking, carrying some heavier things (firewood, water jugs, toilet bucket), to make sure they can take care of their own physical basics for themselves.
We will of course provide everything and show you all the things you need to know, and we always welcome questions! But guests need to have a high level of independence for this exchange to be mutually beneficial. 🌿
We're Anna (40, from Hungary) and Daniel (33, from Germany) and we're building a small off-grid living space in the mountains and forest of Northern Hungary. We live on 2 hectares of forested land, surrounded by an untouched national park forest. It's a hiker's paradise, and the river Danube is only 10 km away, with many beaches for bathing during the summer, kayaking etc.
We have several wooden caravans ("gipsy wagon", "circus wagon") and volunteers will stay in one of them. Our mission is to live in harmony with nature as much as possible (which is a goal, not an already accomplished instagram-aesthetic reality), and to live an authentic and deeply fulfilling life. We are not perfect, our place is not perfect, please only apply if you can accept and respect that.
We have a veggie garden but this year was super dry and challenging so no more veggies from there.
Daniel is an electric emgineer amd Anna is translator.
Daniel has lived in Denmark amd has been here in Hungary since May. Anna moved to this piece of land in 2022 and has been building it since. Anna has lived in the UK and travelled around Europe, India, the US.
Anna studied social anthropology.
We are both on a deep inner journey with experience with self-awareness, ceremonies, trauma-healing, therapies etc - happy to talk about these things. We are also both neurodivergent.
Anna loves dancing, does yoga every day, Daniel loves building electric gadgets and immersing in nature. We both love building things with our own hands.
WE CAN ONLY HOST PEOPLE WHO ARE PSYCHOLOGICALLY STABLE (ENOUGH ;) EVERYONE HAS SHITTY DAYS, OF COURSE ) , WHO ARE NOT IN ACTIVE ADDICTION, AND WHO HAVE A STABLE BACKGROUND TO RETURN TO. OUR PLACE CANNOT BE ANYONE'S ESCAPE FROM HOMELESSNESS. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING! -

Acomodação
In a cute wooden caravan / "circus wagon".
It has a gas stove for cooking, washing sink, composting toilet, and even a small shower corner for nomadic showers. But we have a different shower in another caravan that is more comfortable and you are welcome to use that instead.
It has a wood stove for heating, with CO-alarm.
Rhe caravan has a pull-out couch for one person or a couple.
Electricity: there is a power station in the caravan for charging devices, powering lamps etc.
We provide ingredients for 3 vegetarian meals per day, and there's a gas cooking stove in each caravan. Volunteers prepare their own meals. I am happy to buy the foods that you request as long as it's not lobster and caviar! :D
I will also cook occasionally but volunteers mainly make their own food. -
Algo mais...
The place is pretty much in the middle of the forest plus some fields, it's a hikers' paradise with many official hiking routes so you can explore the moutains etc. The river Danube is only 10 km away, with lots of varied beaches, some big and fun and busy with bars and music, and some hidden and quiet. There are a lot of musical events in the larger area during the summer, and also a lot of alternative and like-minded people live around here so there are quite a few alternative bars. However these are 10km away so it's more comfortable to attend these by car. There is public transport but it's a bit scarce.
How to get here:
1. Train from Budapest to Kismaros
2. Bus from Kismaros to Kóspallag.
I am happy to pick you up by car at the Kismaros train station. -

This depends on your job. I have mobile internet which I can share daily for the basics: checking emails, messages etc., but not for full days and not heavy downloads. I'm a freelance translator and I work with it, too so it's OK for office work If you need more/stronger internet than this, you might be able to go to a nearby town's library .

Espaço para estacionar campervans

I came with one other volonteer on a rainy and muddy day. Anna made her best to welcome us with a meal and extra blankets for the night.
The place is peaceful and beautiful. I experienced freedom there. You can do some walks or visits whenever you want … read more
