Seika and the other two Japanese workawayers we had stay with us for three weeks did a variety of tasks. She was very friendly and cheerful. She is a deep thinker and was ready with good conversation, which Vicky especially enjoyed. Seika was very willing to learn and do any job. She many times did things without being asked, like setting the

Seika also helped to make dill pickles and tasty loaves of bread; washed and dried dishes every evening and we cleaned house. A treat for us was when Seika and Hiroaki cooked a Japanese dish for us when Vicky couldn’t. We had a fun time on their days off seeing some unique landscape and other places nearby and also a day of shopping. We played games most evenings. We look forward to when she will return to visit us again.

… read more workawayer was at their place with me. I would work for 7 up to 8 hours in average along with the family and workawayers, 6 days a week. I felt the work environment was very stressful and controlling overall since there was little trust in anything I did, different from what I experienced here in Canada so far.
I got the feeling that the extra amount of work was taken for granted and expected since every family member is used to work the entire day. On Monday I rarely had the feeling, that I had a relaxed weekend at all, even though I enjoyed the different church services I attended with the family.
The father of the Poulsen family is extraordinary friendly and caring and you will be happy to be able to meet him. Unfortunately you will not work with him along since he works outside most of of the time.
My accommodation was a not complete closed room located in the basement with 1 1/2m² to move around, even though there was one much larger bedroom available upstairs staying empty. You are not allowed to use the internet besides writing E-Mails(you have to write them offline in a document before you are copying them into your web-browser). Thus I cannot recommend you this place, if you have an urge to stay in contact with your family via skype or the like and if you depend on the internet of the host family. I could solve this problem in buying mobile internet for my phone. The local library is a twenty minute car ride away from the Poulsens place and I was able to be at the library for 2 or 3 times during the 5 weeks for 1,5 - 2 hours.
Overall, all family members were welcoming hosts, which provided me with enough and tasty food, a small room and lots of work.
