Hello, everybody!
First of all, I want to thank you everyone who has made the success of Workaway possible.
I’m Umar, a fifty-six year’s old, just pension from Government Plantation office and start a new life with a piece of land at village Pupuan Sawah distric Selemadeg, Tabanan, Bali, so yes this is my half-life project.
About the project:
The main idea of this Workaway is to have fun in nature and share our knowledge to make every day special and, of course, to have a better world. People come here to have contact with nature and take some for themselves, healing, reading, doing some sports, meditating, and others. This is also your little jungle house, so it feel like home.
Let’s live earth-friendly lifestyle, taking care of the nature, but always with fun. We try not to use plastic, and if we do, reduce its use and reuse it. We take care of the farm daily and we learn how we can become self-sufficient with forest permaculture methods.
New ideas for our project are always welcome! I learn a lot of my international Workaway’s friends, so we will learn from each other, and for sure, about our culture and daily life.
Work to do:
There is always work to do here. This year we are making big changes in our farm.
- Helping with social media and marketing.
- Planting some more vegetables (kitchen garden).
- Building and taking care of our infrastructure.
- Starting running the field trip for tourists, and guests (if you like you can join us).
- Camping House Project: I’m starting to build some camping house (DIY), so you can help me build house infrastructures, painting some walls, decoration and others.
Organisation:
You don’t have to start working at a specific time. The idea is that you feel free to do it whenever you feel ready. You don’t have to work all the hours at once either. You can organize yourself however you like. The maximum is five hours a day, five days a week and two days off. This is also a holiday experience, so enjoy it!

If you like a "back to the nature" experience, you'll love our place, You have your room (our bed facilities shared showers and cooking together, cooking our own food is the best healthier food, we provide vegetarian with eggs (natural foods). Here it's vegetarian-friendly place, experiencing the jungle leaf tea if you like.

Umar is a very friendly and energetic person. I was the first volunteer member of his project in Bali, and he was very flexible and accommodating. The memories I made with him and the villagers of Pupuan Sawar remain unforgettable to this day. As for meals, he is a vegetarian, so that is something to keep in mind.

The farm is nice and very eco-friendly with rainwater catchment system. Umar taught me many things about coconut oil which was very interesting. Our experiece here was great! we learned a lot about coconut oil, learned about planting in different soils and the options available! definetly a great place to volunteer if you're going to Kalimantan Barat. Good accomodations, Umar was always attentive and made sure we had everything we needed and more.

Umar is the kindest person with a huge heart. His place is very laid back and he give you lots of freedom to enjoy yourself. We had a great experience at Umar's farm planting coconuts, assisting with his organic vegetable garden and making delicious hand-pressed organic virgin coconut oil.
