We offer accommodation for 1 to 2 people to stay with us and help with a variety of projects around the garden and house :)

Our beautiful piece of paradise is nestled in a community covering 300 acres of sub-tropical rainforest with abundant wildlife somewhere in between Uki, Kyogle, Lismore and Nimbin (Northern Rivers). We are surrounded by stunning national parks and nearby swimming holes (see photo) and an hour to the beach. On the community there is a swimming dam. There are plenty of stunning walks for those who love hiking, with spectacular views across the caldera to Mt Warning. This is a great base to explore the area.

Hubby and I live with our 7 year old kiddo in an artisan spiral roundhouse on 5 acres. We are in the process of renovating the house and creating veggie patches and planting fruit trees with the goal of becoming as self-sufficient as possible. We live as chemical-free as we can, we use natural products in day to day life and also for renovating. We are a non-smoking (tobacco) household.

We have recently built a roof structure in the garden for our new solar system to sit on so we now have abundent power and can move on to our next projects in the house. The roof structure will eventually be converted to a cabin for our Workawayers!

For inside the house we are looking for Workawayers with experience in building, carpentry, etc or a willingness to be involved and / or a love of permaculture as we are about to create a new veggie patch with wicking beds.

Workawayers have their own room with two single beds and a sofa, and share the bathroom, kitchen and living space with us. We are off-grid apart from a telephone so the main house runs off solar power and rainwater tanks, so folks must be conscious of water usage and mindful of power. There is a landline and internet at the house, we connect via ethernet ports to avoid wifi. If you are wifi sensitive, we can accomodate you!

Please do get in touch if you love nature and would like to stay in the hills amongst the gum trees :)

Our minimum stay is two weeks and up to 2 months so far :)

Our community is Land for Wildlife and we are strictly dog and cat free which means that there is abundant wildlife.

Our roundhouse is completely off-grid (apart from a phone line), and we use environmentally friendly products throughout the home. We're always happy to share our off-grid journey with guests. We also have friends in the local community with a wide range of self-sufficiency skills—from sourdough baking and food preserving to syntropic farming—so if there's a particular area you're interested in, we'd be happy to help connect you.

Community is a big part of life here. We regularly enjoy music nights with our neighbours, as well as pizza evenings, fondue nights, and other shared meals. Our guests are always welcome to join in and get to know the local community. One of our neighbours is also an excellent astrologer and offers discounted readings for our guests if that interests you.

I enjoy pottery and am happy to share what I know with anyone who'd like to have a go. We have a local pottery studio with a community kiln, so if you're staying for a month or longer, there's usually time to have your creations fired. Most pieces require two firings, and the kiln is operated by volunteers.

Our cabin is surrounded by abundant wildlife. We share the space with beautiful pademelons, countless birds, owls, and many other native animals, making it a peaceful place to wake up each morning.

The colourful village of Nimbin is just a 20-minute drive away. It's a vibrant hub of musicians, artists, alternative thinkers, and people passionate about sustainable living. On Friday evenings there's often a community drumming circle, along with regular live music and creative events throughout the week. The weekly farmers' market is a wonderful place to pick up organic produce, local food, and handmade crafts.

The larger regional towns of Lismore and Murwillumbah are both around a 45-minute drive away and offer supermarkets, healthcare, shopping, and all the usual services.

    Ajuda

We have a variety of tasks to complete to finish the renovations of our beautiful octagonal spiral house!

Our exchange is 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week for accommodation and meals. We usually prepare 3 meals a day on the work days, and on the two days off, we prefer if guests look after preparing their own meals but you are welcome to join us for our family meal if you will be around and let us know . Sometimes we may ask guests to contribute to cooking an evening meal.

We mostly like to start work at set times in the morning as this helps with the flow of the day especially if we have to do school drops and pickups. Sometimes we need to be flexible and likewise we can be flexible around others' needs. We are happy to chat or video call before your arrival :)

We ask for a 2 week minimum stay as we prepare the house for guests and then it takes a few days to settle in and get a project underway.

Tasks will depend on whatever skills are on offer, what the weather is doing and can include:

    Outside
    - oiling the external timber of the house
    - replacing external cladding boards

    Inside
    - small building projects
    - sanding internal windows and oiling
    - painting

    Veggie beds
    - fencing
    - wicking beds,
    - raised beds
    - compost management

    Gardening
    - brush cutting (we have petrol and electric tools)
    - weed pulling
    - pile burns

    Other tasks
    - collect kindling
    - chop firewood
    - make a firewood shed

If you are keen on bush regeneration, we also need lots of help with our 5 acre plot. There are lantana and other weeds to be cleared and native plants planted!

Inside the house, we have lots of little jobs that we never have time to do thanks to our little one. A wee bit of sanding, maybe some painting with eco-paints. For those who love working with wood, building, plumbing or being creative we can also have many jobs around the property that need doing, including repairs and maintenance.

Other general tasks might include gathering kindling and firewood ready for winter.

We have endless lists of things we need help with or would love to create and so if you have a passion for something in particular, we'd be happy to be flexible. If you prefer indoor / outdoors, physical / non-physical tasks we can accommodate accordingly.

We are off-grid apart from a telephone so the main house runs off solar power and rainwater tanks so folks must be conscious of power and water usage! There is a landline and internet at the house.

We are fragrance-free due to chemical sensitivities and our waste water from the shower and washing maching goes out onto the land so we are happy to provide fragrance-free and no-harmful chemical products for your use when you stay.

This area is best suited to people with a vehicle as public transport is limited - but buses do run from the community entrance to Nimbin and on into Lismore and Murwillumbah at school times. People often hitch into Nimbin too, as locals are used to tourists and residents hitching a ride, but obviously caution should be applied.

We can pick you up from Kyogle, Murwillumbah, Lismore and our nearest village is Nimbin.

Guest feedback that they sleep really well here, surrounded by nature so if you like being in nature with access to amazing nature-based activities this is the place for you!

There are local swimming holes such as Hanging Rock swimming hole which is a 10 minute drive, the community has its own swimming dam too plus plenty of roads and fire trails for walks around the community.

We are also close to stunning scenic drives and spots to visit, the following sites are all within 1.5 hour drive. If we have capacity we are happy to take helpers to:

    - Once a month (second Sunday) the Channon Craft Market is worth a visit, and generally there are small markets every Sunday around the area.
    - Border Ranges National Park especially The Pinnacle Look-out.
    - Natural Bridge to see the waterfall and glow worms.
    - Brunswick Heads seaside town with the great music venue at Brunswick Hotel.
    - Mullumbimby, another hippy town.

And also helpers may like to visit the following under their own steam:

    - Minion falls which are 100m high.
    - Protester's falls
    - Byron Bay
    - Lennox Heads teatree lake.

This area is abundant with events and workshops and our community has an astrologer who does readings.

There isn't much public transport but we are happy to take Workawayers out sightseeing when we can, and there might be lifts available through other members of our community.
