  Hello! I’m Maxime, a French entrepreneur who has been living in São Tomé for many years, working in the tourism industry, and owning a peppercorn and cocoa plantation.
  
  Together with local friends, we established a local NGO focused on youth education, providing a variety of after-school activities for the community in Bairro do Hospital, São Tomé city.
  
  We currently engage over 60 participants, ranging from 6 to 20 years old.
  
  Our programs include a Chess club, Capoeira, Boxing, and Tennis classes. Also beach activities during the holidays and sometimes a pic nic at the beach (on week ends)
  .
  In 2023, we started the Apprenticeship program and now we are launching a Driving License support program, which requires some funding (we match families for a 50/50% payment of the driving license teaching fee).
  
  All of these activities require time, energy and financial resources.
  
  We are seeking a dedicated volunteer to assist with these tasks and help us launch a fundraising campaign that will empower the NGO to achieve financial independence.
  
  Now we have 4 teachers + assistants working part time (tennis, capoeira, chess, boxing).
  
  Hopefully we will take over an abandonned social center in the neighborhood so we will refurbish it and have a proper room for chess club. Then this room will also be used as a library and a teaching center (welcome to bring your teaching experience !).
  
  At my home, we have an amazing cooking lady who prepares excellent traditional dishes (cahupa, feijoada, grilled fish) and amazing French salads and Chinese dishes (古老肉，宫保鸡丁，凉拌黄瓜)...
  
  Work will be divided in 2 parts:
  - On-site Tasks: Assist with activities and conduct photo/video reporting for social media.
  - Office Tasks: Handle marketing activities and launch a fundraising campaign
  
  Our goal is to support beneficiaries until they successfully enter the job market.
  
  Looking ahead, we plan to establish a local library and introduce after-school and literacy classes tailored for young professionals.

  You will have the opportunity to work with enthusiastic Santomense individuals and provide teaching services to joyful youth.
  
  This experience will help you improve your Portuguese language skills and immerse yourself in the vibrant life of local communities.
  
  On weekends, you can explore the island’s beautiful beaches, enjoy ocean activities, and hike through scenic mountains.
  
  When available, you may also join various tourist activities with our local guides, such as excursions, hikes, boat rides, and wildlife observation, including dolphins and sea turtles.

  Ajuda

  São Tomé is a Portuguese speaking nation. Nevertheless we want to focus on the Marketing and Fundraising activities, so we will target English, French and Portuguese speaking audience.
  
  English is a must, Portuguese will be useful for daily activities, and French can be a supportive tool (if you like you can teach a French Class !)
  
  Tasks are divided in 2 sections:
  
  **Marketing and Fundraising Activities involves:
  - Conducting photo and video documentation of activities.
  - Managing posts on our social media platforms.
  - Launching a fundraising campaign ( we have more than 4000 qualified contacts)
  
  **Direct Support of Clubs involves:
  - Helping to prepare teaching materials.
  - Assisting during activities alongside our local coaches.
  - Working with coaches to enhance their efficiency, tailored to your specific areas of interest.
  
  Myself I am quite busy with the travel agency and the plantation, so I must insist on the following facts: we need mature, autonomous, and proactive volunteers. We discuss upon your arrival, make a working plan, provide instructions and we expect the volunteer to move on, on his own, and then to provide feedback and share information. Since we all live in the same building we can meet everyday to discuss work in progress.
  
  You´ll also receive support from our home lady, and you´ll work along with the oldest beneficiaries of the association (now being the teachers). We run many clubs, try to open more projects and don´t have time with sleepy people (unless we recruit you on that purpose...).
  
  Last but not least, communication is an essential key ; communicate ahead of situations ; tell us what you need (at home, about food, for the clubs etc.) and we´ll arrange it.

  Acomodação

  We offer a room with a fan and a private bathroom in a house divided into two apartments. On the ground level, you’ll find a shared kitchen, a small dojo, and a garden area with a table and bench. The apartment has an independent entrance door, providing you with privacy. The house is equipped with Wi-Fi, hot water, and is home to 3 friendly dogs and 1 cat. Breakfast and dinner will be provided.
  No, we dont charge a cent.
  We provide airport transfer.
  Main transportation (plane ticket) at the workawayers´expense.

  We are looking for proactive Workawayers who enjoy communicating with others and are eager to discover a new culture on a small island in the Gulf of Guinea, while also improving their Portuguese skills (if not yet proficient).
  
  *Important Notice*: traveling with depression does not heal it, it only displaces it.
  
  We value quiet time from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and for mental health reasons, the WiFi is automatically turned off from midnight to 6 a.m. Please note that in the rare event of a water shortage, we use a bucket and cold water for showers.
  
  The ocean is just 1.2 km away, perfect for a morning swim. Our NGO’s social center is located 1.5 km from our house, and we may provide a bicycle if needed.
