A family of 4, including 2 daughters. My first daughter can speak English and she wants to have someone help her to improve her English. I work in information technology field and can speak English a little. I have a big house so I have rooms available.

My house locates in a zone of Danang Economics university, my neighborhoods are all professors working for Danang university. This is a safe place for you :).

You don't have to do lots of work, I won't have much benefit by giving this free accommodation, you only need to spend about 30' a day whenever you can to sit down and talking with us about whatever we can, that's it.

One free room for 2 or 3 people. Free accomodation but no meals included. Also, the stay is not couple friendly since its one room for many people and no privacy is available.

Around my house, there are some places for you to visit such as Marble mountain, Hoi An ancient town, Ba Na hill, Linh Ung pagoda, Hai Van mountain... You can easily go to Hoi An ancient town from my house by bus. My residence is also next to My Khe beach. If you like swimming, it is a good place to live because you can walk to the beach

A little far from my house are there My Son, Lang Co beach, Hue -an ancient citadel of Vietnam... You can also get there by bus or train.

What a lovely family! I’d like to start by once again thanking the whole family for welcoming me into their home. It is a lovely, big, clean house in a perfect location. Close to the beach but also the city too! I spent 2 and a half weeks here and could’ve done longer if only my visa allowed! When I came there was the family 4, Nanny, Chau and… read more another volunteer living in the house so Sunny kindly let me sleep in her room! I soon got my own room but overlapping with another volunteer really helped actually! I feel I came during a difficult time for the family and they were all rather busy with their studies and jobs. They all work extremely hard! However, they still tried their best to spend some time with me! I would recommend going during the school holidays so that you can spend some quality time with all of the family including Nelly and Sunny.
Although, everyday I spent hours playing with Nelly and her friends and they are all very good at English! Nelly loves watching English YouTube videos so if you can sing along with them she loves it! She’s very easy to play with and loves colouring so just incorporate English in this. She also has bundles of energy so try to keep up!
With Sunny we spent hours on end perfecting applications for American schools for her to study abroad next year. She speaks perfect English and loves horror films! We managed to watch one on Halloween but otherwise she studies so hard it was difficult to spend time together unless it was doing work. I hope the next volunteer takes her to Sun World as I didn’t get the chance! I expect Sunny will have a great future and can’t wait to see her songs published!
Sadly I am vegetarian so couldn’t try any of the amazing dishes the mother had cooked. Vietnam is difficult being veggie anyway so I wouldn’t expect the family to accommodate this, but they did still give me rice, veg and nuts a few times!
I really enjoyed teaching both Chau and Henry, Do’s niece and nephew. They are both lovely people and really keen to learn! Chau is 18 and is trying to grasp speaking English but understands words themselves. Just speak slowly and clearly to her. Whereas Henry is 16 and is almost perfect just needs help with grammar and he is a little shy so prompting him really helps. Chau always bought work with her to our lessons and Henry only needed help speaking so I didn’t have to prepare for either teaching lessons. Just hold a good, grammatically correct, conversation! They are very chilled and you can decide when’s best to teach but I did: 2 hours with Chau every Mon, Weds and Friday. With Henry we done 1 hour Weds and Friday.
A few recommendations for the next volunteers: use the mosquito net! It’s in the room just have to find it under the desk, hang it up because otherwise you will be easily bitten! Always ask Sunny if you need any questions answered. TMS Coffee shop next door has super fast WiFi so go there if you need to do any work with faster WiFi. Also, try to keep weekends free to spend with the family if you can, as during the week you won’t see them as much.
As long as you’re an easy-going, independent and confident person you’ll fit in fine! I really enjoyed my time in Da Nang and done a few tours and trips from there, it’s a good base for a few weeks!
Thanks again Do for welcoming me and I wish all of the family the best of luck in the future. Can’t wait to hear about the children as they grow up!
