  1 week of Olive harvesting! Days are flexible.
  
  Join us for our annual olive harvesting, the weather is looking sweet so we need some fun loving folks to join us. (Planned volunteers just cancelled 😬 so very last minute)
  
  It’s just myself (Charlotte) and my amazingly beautiful friend helping this year and we have 80 olive trees 💪 so if your around until we take them to the press later in the week we can share the fruits of our labour 🫶🏻
  
  Days are flexible next week, even if you can join for a day or two, it will be a fun and an easy job and the weather is looking 🌞💃🏻🌞🕺🏻🌞

  If is with excitement that I update our post. It has been 6 years living off-grid in Central Portugal at the foot of the Serra da Estrella national park. And what an adventure it has been as we navigate living with the seasons, self sustainability and personal growth. It has been an immense journey!
  We love to welcome people from all over the world, all we ask is that you can commit to two weeks of labour and love!
  Our working hours are 5 hours a day, 5 days a week and in return we offer a stay in a caravan or tent with breakfast, lunch and dinners. Everyone is expected to join in cooking and washing up at dinner time if you choose to join us. We love to try new cuisine and share recipes!
  Duties will involve nurturing our food forest and vegetable gardens, helping make our land fire and drought ready and general seasonal duties. We also plan on building some storage structures made from raw wood and improving the infrastructure of the land. So any previous building or carpentry skill would be helpful but not necessary.
  In return you will gain knowledge from our 6 years of wisdom of off-grid living, fresh seasonal meals and good company!
  
  Our farm is mostly oak forest, so we practice sustainable forest management guided by our knowledge of permaculture.
  Our place is in Avo, a hotspot for river beach enthusiasts and adventurers!
  But it’s not all wild swimming and hiking. We are located on the Alva river, here we mingle with traditional Portuguese farmers and families from all over the world! It is a cultural hub where you can experience anything from traditional Portuguese folk music to craft workshops. From dancing to browsing artisan markets with every kind of creation you can think of.
  We are a 15 minute walk into the beautiful Avo river beach, and many secluded river spots which is where you will find us come 3pm!

  We can offer a place of relaxation and tranquility, to share experiences with an open minded family. Indulge in yoga wake up to dance or simply kick back in a hammock under the oaks. We are open to late nights around the fire place. Our daughter is super sociable so we welcome playful volunteers.

  Ajuda

  We are looking for roughly 4-5 hours a day/5 days a week but nothing is set in stone and it is all dependant on what projects we are working on at a time. We can negotiate if you have any particular skills and depending on what you enjoy or feel confident with we can delegate jobs accordingly.
  
  HELP US MAINTAIN OUR FOOD FOREST!
  
  We are looking for a group of people to give us a hand with seasonal duties such as carpentry, forestry, ground maintenance, permaculture implementation and cooking as well as helping out with build projects. Over the autumn we are clearing the last remaining evidence of the 2017 fires and starting to implement our food forest design by planting more trees and edible perennials, using well researched, and some tried and tested methods of design. Focusing on polycultures, building soil and nutrients and reserving water to maximise efficiency and preserving this otherwise climatically threatened part of Europe. We hope to use this project as an example to inspire the community to step away from the monoculture forests that fuelled the catastrophic events of 2017.
  
  
  HELP US IMPROVE OUR INFRASTRUCTURE
  
  We are always maintaining and improving our permaculture inspired projects, sometimes that may mean environmentally friendly natural build projects, art, education and/or community based projects.
  
  BE PART OF OUR UNSCHOOLING CURRICULUM
  
  We are always looking for people that can share their knowledge with unschooled/home educated daughter so if you are good with kids great!

  Your digs will consist of a tent/caravan including nestled in the shade of a gathering of oak trees with views of the Alva valley and sunset. We have two large tents so couples and small groups are welcome. Food will be provided and you will be welcome to join us but we do ask that you muck in and contribute to the cooking/washing up. We try to use as much of the organic produce from our farm as possible.
  
  We have a minimum stay requirement of 1 week which will also act as a trial period, providing you contribute and are not a complete nuisance you will be more than welcome to stay on longer ;)
  
  -Workaway have requested that I mention we provide a mattress and bedding! Though I thought that goes without saying!

  The area is surrounded by stunning scenery and places to explore which is why we have chosen to make this place our home after our world travels. Gorgeous waterfalls, gorges, wild swimming spots and huge mountains surround us. An amazing expat community has gathered in this quirky part of central portugal, everybody so unique with a common interest of building a more sustainable future and way of life. There are local markets where anyone can buy or sell hand made/grown items which is usually a chance for everyone to get together.
