( sorry, couple only - it's a bit isolated for a single person) I need someone, ideally with horse experience to help care for my 3 horses ( all arabs, two older and now retired , one young one in training) and to help in the garden,and generally with land and property maintenance . Help with my very limited Spanish would also be welcome!

What can we offer in return? I can't offer riding unless you are competent to train a young horse. I can offer the experience of living in a unique environment - dry farmland / the nearest to a desert in Europe, with plenty of places of interest around and about. Ideal for walking /cycling- we are flexible about times/ days off etc so you can get out and explore. Food ( or allowance) and a very nice self contained flat.

A driving license would be an advantage for any one over 25 who can drive on our insurance.
Someone wanting a longer stay (a remote worker maybe, who might not want to help as much but could chip in a bit and house sit sometimes) would be especially welcome - self contained flat will be provided

we can offer - the interest of living in a semi desert area - unique in Europe. The area is very rural and was slow to develop and the past still feels quite close at times.

I am an ex English language teacher, so would be glad to help someone wanting to improve their English.

We have mostly good internet but it does have blips, often weather related. Most of the time its fine, and if you mainly download work and return it, no problem. If you need to be on line all day, you might have a problem

We spent with Naomi and Paul the period comprehended between november the 22th and December the 27th 2020 and highly recommend other workawayers to stay with them.

To start with, the activities and tasks were varied and we enjoyed them. Naomi taught me a daily routine to do with the horses, which consisted mostly in feeding them, cleaning the… read more stables, doing some easy fencing tasks and going out for short walks... If you like animals you'll fall in love with her horses. It was a fullfilling activity, and Naomi was really patient and sweet in terms of communication. Whenever I commited a mistake or forgot how to do something, she comforted me and said things like "don't worry, this is just my way of doing things, but it's not the only way possible", and her relaxed atitude and manners made the job even more enjoyable. I also had the opportunity to watch her launching the youngest horse a couple of times. This was a rich experience because I've always dreamed on having my own horses... and I still do, but I realize that in order to provide them with a good quality of life, you need to be available for them the same way Naomi is, and that's a big commitment.

In the other hand, Nico's tasks were helping Paul with some easy carpentry jobs: repairing tasks in the stables and some furniture restoration. Paul has a very cool workshop full with toys... I mean, tools... and taught Nico how to use several machines. Just as Naomi, he is patient and clear when giving instructions. Other tasks were olive picking for a couple of days and some gardening. Both of them are very active people and worked side by side with us.

The location is easy to access but isolated, so it's probably better if you go with your own mean of transportation, as we did. If you go by car, you can visit beautiful close towns as Velez-Blanco and Velez-Rubio, or visit the temple of Saliente. If you don't mind driving for a couple of hours, you can even visit The Alhambra, the city of Granada, and the city of Almería. Paul and Naomi always let us pick our days off, which was really convenient to travel around the area.

The accommodation provided was excellent, a comfortable and private flat which had everything we needed, including a lovely wood stove for colder days. We ocasionally shared some meals with P&N, but mostly did our own cooking and were able to choose what and when to eat on daily basis, which was nice for a change (specially after you spent several months sharing almost everything with other people!)

Though we speak and understand english, we are native spanish speakers, and at the very beginning we were concerned about how it was going to be speaking in english all the time. But Paul and Naomi were super patient, always spoke clear and slowly for us, and didn't mind repeating nor explaining things more than once to us. Also, they were interested in improving their spanish, and it was nice for us sharing our own language with them. So, if your english is not perfect but you'll like to improve it, it may be an opportunity for you as well.

In summary, a beautiful experience with a kind, respectful and easy going couple (with an interesting background living in the Middle East), their pets and horses. We feel lucky and grateful for that, and encourage you to get in touch with them!

We stayed for 2 weeks with Naomi and all the animals, it was absolutely great! The landscape was wonderfull!
We helped with the stabels, painting, cooking and weeding, the work was Not Too much and you are pretty flexibel!
