… read more much fun playing and hanging around with her son, and though he was a lot to manage, I loved having a younger brother for a change. Now after almost half a year, I miss them all very much. I am also very grateful about the trust Aijuna had in me. I stayed at the farm for a whole week just by myself and it was a great time. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful, incredible landscapes just in the back yard and it goes on for miles. The nearby towns are very nice as well and again around them, beautiful vineyards and forests.
I am also very grateful for being able to ride any horse at any time after work and that all by myself. I really couldn’t believe it at first. I could go so far with them and I even met other riders from nearby towns. There are so many little beautiful ways to see the nature there and all by horse was just amazing. I wasn’t really someone who had a lot of experience on a horse, but after riding so much and also working with them, I felt so comfortable with them. It was truly special.
The work was also fun, of course it gets tiring at times and sometimes makes it feel like forever, but in general liked doing it. I cared for the horses, cut little trees and branches, repair fences, move fences, build fences out of branches, cut wood, transport stuff and so on. All in all things I’d do again, especially the cutting wood part.
I am definitely forgetting loads of reasons why my more or less 5 weeks there were so memorable, if you want to meet nice people, have loads of fun, be with animals and ride horses as much as you want, that’s the place to be.

I had a very nice stay with Aijuna. I stayed for 6 weeks. When I arrived I stayed in her house for a few days, the house is very cosy. There you have your own room and wifi, the villa also has a great pool! I later moved to the farm, which I preferred because I wanted to be closer to the horses. … read more which makes it very magical. Apart from the wind, the horses and the birds, there is nothing to hear, which is wonderful. Life on the farm is a little different, because the house is one big room that you share with other guests. Electricity is always supplied by a battery. Solar panels still need to be installed. Aijuna herself is a great woman, you can talk to her about anything and I really enjoyed the fact that you can discuss problems in a very mature way. She is very helpful, for example she took me out to restaurants, she took me to a festival, she took me to concerts and even introduced me to her friends and family. She also entrusted me with her car and horses, which not everyone does! I could do whatever I wanted, whether I wanted to train with the horses or go into the woods. Having the horses in my free time was a real blessing! I visited them again and stayed in touch ;)

I stayed at Ajunjas farm for three weeks in July and I enjoyed my time there very much. I painted walls and window blinds, took care of her beautiful horses and helped to create a vegetable garden. … read more took good care of me and we shared the cooking and dishes harmonicaly. She made sure I got to know the area and french culture. Thus we went to concerts, went out to eat and I met some of her friends which I all liked a lot. I adapted to the limited amount of elictricity quite well and found it interesting to experience "budgeting" ones water use in order to not have to go on too many water runs. We stayed at this work away for 5 weeks and overall it was fun but challenging. The first week, we had to adapt to living on the farm with no electricity and no water. Although collecting over 120 litres of water every day from a source seems like a lot of water, you learn that we use a lot more water than we think. The work from the first week
… read more consisted of taking the horses out to graze, mucking out horse manure from their paddocks, and hand-pulling out weeds to start the vegetable garden. We also enjoyed a sustainable fashion show event on the weekend which was lovely!
On the second week, we asked to stay at the host’s house as we needed a bit of internet and a good shower, and she kindly let us stay for a week. We also asked to include meat into the meals which was kindly accepted. As for the work, we pulled out weeds from the host’s garden at her house, we removed rocks and dug into the ground to prepare a terrace for cement, we built wooden frames, pushed hay bales up a hill, and organised a manure pile for future compost. At the end of the week, one of the workawayers left early and a new person arrived.
The third week, we started doing cement work. This was very challenging as we were three women with no experience. Although it was quite physical and tiring, we managed to figure it out but we did make errors. On the other hand, we also made fires to burn excess wood to clear a paddock, pushed another hay bale up a hill, we created a new paddock for the pregnant mares, and did some riding on our free time. On the weekend, we went to two live band events which was nice.
The fourth week, the weather got better, we continued to do cement, and one of the fowls was born.
The last week, we cut branches, burnt more wood, and cleared a paddock of manure. We did a lot of horseriding the last two weeks which was amazing.
Overall, there were ups and downs and as long as your expectations are communicated to the host about food and the hours of work you would like to do per day, you will enjoy your stay. No day was the same as the previous one, there is a lack of structure especially around time schedules, but over time you learn to be flexible with work and eating schedules. I would also suggest to count the hours yourself. I stayed two weeks with Aijuna. One week on the farm and one week in her villa. Living on the farm will teach you to value water as you'll help to get a part of it. … read more her cleaning an area full of weeds, walking the horses, burn wood to create a larger paddock for the mares. I did a lot of new things like rolling a hay bale which can be quite fun in good company;) On the first weekend she took us to a beautiful event 1h away from our normal environment. The second weekend we stayed alone at the villa which was quite nice to relax a bit. She left us one car, so we could go to a little market. We were four people (Aijuna and 3 workaways) and we found a nearly unspoken commitment for cooking and doing the dishes. So no one got disadvantaged. She mostly bought good quality food.
If you're having an issue just talk to her and you'll figure something out. She has a lot on her mind and a long to-do list, so it's the best to adress her directly.

We stayed for two weeks with Aijuna for our first workaway experience. My daughter needed to do an internship for high school for two weeks. To give her a special experience instead of doing the common we decided to work in an other country together. And it was such an amazing experience.

… read more opportunity. We were invited to stay at her house and we could rent her car to be mobile by ourselves.
She is so hospitable. We felt so welcome. It was not only working but we were also able to experience a part of her live. We got to meet her friends, we were invited to parties, we eat pizza, we went to a local concert and yoga.
Working at the farm was also a good experience. She does such a good job over there. I admire her perseverance. She works really hard and she also expect it from the workawayers. So we worked hard. But in between there was also the possibility to do some lighter work. Some of our work was helping to clear a piece of land from dead trees, wood, brambles etc. To create a new place for the mares near the farm. We helped taking care of the horses. We helped and learned how to prune the wineyard which was really nice to learn and to do.
Lunch and diner we prepared together at the farm or in the villa.
In our free time we explored the area. Aijunas niece was staying with her and she joined us which was really nice. Also because my daughter and she got along very well and had a lot of fun.

I stayed at this farm for 2 weeks, together with my mom. The hospitality was very nice, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. Aijuna is a strong women who does what she sets her mind to. A true role model when it comes to hardwork. commitment to her goals and aspirations served as an inspiration throughout my stay. I got to take care of the horses and ride, but also a lot of other more physical activities. I met a lot of amazing people because Aijuna gave us the opportunity to take a look in the local life here. She took us to parties hosted by her friends or herself, to eat pizza and a concert. I am usually the type of person to become a bit homesick. But ajiunna really made me feel like I was at home. definitely a experience I will cherish.

I stayed only a few days and decided to leave. The place is nice, the horses beautiful and Aijuna has great knowledge in that domain. My feeling is that she chose to have too many workawayers (10!) when the house was not yet ready to hold so many people (no running water, no electricity, nobody but workawayers living in the house). … read more as things develop this place will be able to offer much to someone interested in horses. Probably due to the fact that we were so many, the host was somewhat controlling and had deadlines and expectations about the work which were not doable with the work material and daily hours. Care for the house, cooking and care for the horses was not counted as work hours, which I understand only to some extent. Quality of ingredients for cooking was low (budget supermarket stuff) and kitchen still ill equipped (we run out of olive oil and salt!!). I am sure things with time will get better, as the work on the house advances and if host understands that this is an exchange and people who are there are actually bringing value, are not your employees and that the work they do for you is worth good quality equipment and food. And yes, feeding 10 people is expensive, but maybe worth it!

… read more settle into a routine. I enjoyed doing the evening chores especially, and having plenty of cuddles with Kini and Gold at the end of the day. I loved getting to know all of the individual personalities of all of Aijuna’s amazing horses, and riding with her in the areas around the domaine are some of my favourite memories. The restaurant team were all incredibly kind and patient with my level of French, and I’m so happy I had the opportunity to get to know them. I had plenty of free time to explore the nearby towns and to make little day trips to Narbonne and Carcassonne, and to relax in the river on the domaine or in town. Sometimes the days were long, but it all felt very worth it. If you are willing to work hard, and you love animals and share Aijuna’s passion for working with horses, you’ll fit right in. There’s so much more for me to say about my stay here, but overall, I want to say a huge thank you to Aijuna and Jeremie for being so kind and making my month unforgettable. Even if she sometimes can be busy from the restaurant she cares of the people she work with, so you'll not miss anything (I'll never stop to thank you for all the good wine you made me taste).
The work variate from time to time, dependently on what it's needed, but for this, it does never become annoying, it's a place where you can learn a lot about many fields.
There's literally so much you can do: practice your French with all the equipe of the restaurant (I'll miss them so much); pass the time and ride horses in the beautiful hills around (Aijuna knows really nice tracks); travel to the amazing surrounding cities, like Minerve, Carcassonne, Toulouse and Narbonne; learn about the Catars and Occitanie; relax in the beautiful river they own, where to have silence and take a bath; enjoy the evenings with the friends of Aijuna and the clients of the restaurant, in a stunning terrasse.
The domain they own is huge and beautiful, they have literally built it and it's really a melange of southern French architecture with some crazy far west, vietnamese and exotic influences, it's an experience by itself. You have the choice to stay in a luxury apartment or in a rustic cabin log, so from the most chill to the most adventurous, every taste is satisfied.
A note has to be said about the food, as it comes from the restaurant, so every meal is a delicious discover worth to try!
My permanence there gave me so much, so many beautiful people, memories and moments of self-grown, definitely an experience I'd love to do again.
