I stayed with Jonas for a month and it was a very interesting experience and no two days were ever the same. Jonas is very knowledgeable about the island and landmarks around the area, he was able to point me to a lot of cool spots and even let me borrow his car as a reward for my hard work. The car is a perk and there's certain places you will

I learned alot about the importance of aquaponics and cleaning the fish filters is an everyday task. Besides aquaponics upkeep the majority of the work were landscaping tasks like weedeating and watering the bananas, bamboo, papaya, and other plants being propagated in the greenhouse. During my stay we worked together to fix up an old bread van and make it livable with running water from a catchment and solar power from the panels on the roof. I learned the basics of electrical and plumbing and it was kind of fun when I finally got an understanding of the task at hand. Jonas is unapologetically himself and he does not put up with b.s. if you are a soft person or easily offended this is not the place for you. He will accept you for who you are but you might be tested. I learned many life lessons from him and if I ever return to the big island I will be reaching out!Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

It's a rainy day in Hawaii. The sky is crying because Michael and Martina or M and M's have gone home. M and M truly brought sunshine and Joy to our farm. While they had no real experience with work trade or farm stay before the 6 weeks they spent on my farm. The awesome work ethic and enthusiasm for learning ,made M and M a real asset to our farm

It's been almost two weeks since we arrived at Jonas', and we believe that we could not have been any more content. We have a beautiful and cozy A-frame cabin all for ourselves which is not only for sleepovers, but there is also a small yet very practical kitchenette (incl. staple food), reasonably big bathroom and a cool corner with TV and a sofa
… read more for hanging out. As for the work tasks, most of them are related to the aquaponics system - we clean the fish filters, feed the fish (and cats) and do the general maintenance around the garden such as hand weeding and weed-whacking. Upcoming larger projects for us are going to be digging another pond for the fish and starting the hydroponic lettuce garden. Jonas and his girlfriend Mele are super nice people who truly care of us; as a privilege for hard work we have the opportunity to use the car on our days off, and Jonas frequently invite us for the meals he cooks (he is an amazing cook, and this is not just a polite exaggeration!). Besides that, there are pineapples, bananas and especially a huge amount of papayas growing at the garden which we are having for a healthy breakfast. Highly recommending everyone to stay at least 6 weeks with them, you will learn A LOT! Just a small disclaimer: there is a rooster farm neighboring with this place, so if you are a light sleeper, you might consider using earplugs over the nights.Só é possível entrar em contato com Workawayers com assinaturas ativas.

Brian came to Hookele farm on just a two week stay to fill in for workawayers
that departed early. We usually ask for a 6 week commitment from work traders so that the experience is beneficial for both the farm and the worktrader. With Brian it only took 1 week until it was clear that the farm was benefiting from the full charge work ethic that

I look forward to Brian coming back to Hookele farm on his way around the world to hear about his experiences and hopefully we can get him to stay a little longer.
I would recommend Brian for any position he would seek.

Jonas is by far the best of the 3 hosts I have had so far. He is an amazing cook, a fun and laid back boss, and a good guy. He has experience in many fields/industries and is very patient and open to questions. He took me snorkeling my first of 2 weeks and let me do paid construction work with him. I got to enjoy lots of strawberry papayas growing
… read more right outside my door, play with the cats and dogs, and feed the fish/cats/plants every day. I got to meet Jonas’ coworkers and girlfriend, who were all very friendly. I learned a lot about aquaponics, construction, and life in general and can only hope my contributions were a fair trade for all Jonas provided me with.
The A-frame cabin is very comfortable and well stocked with food, hygiene products, couch, a nice TV with Fire stick, lots of cooking tools -including a fridge, big sink, tons of utenstils/dishes, propane oven, 2 coffee pots And a tea pot. Also, I left a bunch of good work shirts I bought at the transfer station for the next XL guy who comes along. The bed is very comfortable and there are many towels provided. The wifi is pretty darn good, especially after 2 previous Big Island work trades where I had no wifi and barely had phone service. Jonas goes the extra mile to make guests comfortable, telling me multiple times that if I want him to buy something for the cabin to just let him know.
The location is really good as it is near a lot of stores and a great thrift shop kinda place at the Keaau transfer station, as well as the Hilo area in general.
I couldn’t have asked for a better work trade. I really wanted to stay longer in Jonas’ cool 50s bus (since when I arrived he had already rented the cabin out to a couple starting in 2 weeks) and may end up there when I return to the island after doing a little more traveling. Its hard to get back on the road, into the chaos of super-cheap travel, after being somewhere like this. I will be back!Comentário

I had the pleasure of hosting these two young men for 6 weeks on my aquaponics farm in Hawaii.
Chance and Dylan were very personable and respectful and worked hard while they also enjoyed the culture of Hawai'i and embraced the Hawaii lifestyle. At 18 and 19 years old my farm was the first workaway opportunity for them and considering it was

These young men worked very well together as where one would be lacking in a skill or talent the other seemed to possess.
My only complaint would be that they left a little early with short notice. And perhaps a bit unorganized but that's to be expected from men of their age . I wish them well in all their future endeavors!

Great experience here at the farm, this is a place where you really get to learn Hawaii and the true beauty of it. Expect to learn a lot as long as your willing. The food has been amazing, Jonas always providing at least one meal a day and most the time more. He has bought groceries multiple times and even lets you borrow a car to take to the
