Kia ora!

My name is Linda and I am a 63 year old art curator living part-time on a coastal property with a big garden which I am developing.

Ōrere Point is a small village of 300 people. It is very isolated, a long way (71km, over one hour) from shops, supermarkets, cafes and banks, so not suitable as your first destination when you arrive from overseas and need to set up banking etc..

I am looking for help with property maintenance, landscaping and gardening so please let me know what you can do (and have done before) and what hours you expect you will work each day.

You will need your own car to reach Ōrere Point, which is an hour from Auckland by road. There is no public transport to Orere Point, so those who don't have their own transport usually hitch-hike to get here, although one or two arrived by bike and were exhausted for a week afterwards!

I do not wish to host people who smoke and if your diet is very specific, please make sure that you bring the food with you when you arrive.

Beautiful beach and river nearby which are excellent for swimming. Also great for kayaking - I have a fishing kayak available to borrow. There is a small shop, a library and health clinic but no supermarket in Orere Point (it is a really small place, far away from any city or town) so it is best to bring your own special foods if you have dietary needs.

A super useful Workawayer with lots of energy and ideas. Able to work without supervision, and with plenty of intitiative to see what needed to be done. Paul has a wealth of experience to draw on in maintenance and gardening, and is also interested in others and their activities. A very good Workawayer to host, and I would happily host again.

Linda is the greatest host you could have. She helped us a lot during our first two weeks in NZ, and we felt truly supported. We couldn't have asked for more. We gardened for her, which was nice and satisfying, and it gave us a chance to connect with the beautiful environment around us

We loved having Alessia and Claudia to stay at Orere Point. They arrived on Boxing Day, and fitted right in, helping to weed the overgrown garden, and making delicious salads. They are both lovely, friendly young women with great senses of humour that we very much enjoyed hosting. They are honest and responsible and very trustworthy.
