  • Description

Hi! I’m Vita. I live in Amsterdam, where I study Cultural Anthropology. Alongside my studies I work in home care. I support vulnerable people so they can live independently at home for as long as possible.
Things that make me happy are mostly connected to nature or other people. I am a very social person and I love to support, listen and talk with people. I am curious about others and the world and since studying anthropology, I feel like my view has opened up a lot.
Academically, I am especially interested in post-/decolonial questions and the connection between care, inequality and the environment. I care deeply about understanding how people live in different contexts and how we can create more just, sustainable and caring systems.
When I was 18 years old, I travelled by myself through Southern Africa, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and New Zealand. During that time I flew a lot. Those journeys are beautiful memories, but they also made me more aware of my impact on the planet. Lately, I try to make more conscious choices. I try to fly less and have been eating fully vegetarian for quite some years now, as small ways of being kinder to the earth.
I want to continue studying after my bachelor because I love working with people but I also want to learn more about our earth and how we can treat it with care. I am interested in slower ways of living and in how slowing down can be better for us. In a city like Amsterdam, life moves very fast and it can be hard to really enjoy everyday moments.
I grew up in the countryside in German speaking Belgium. As a teenager, I sometimes found it boring but now I really miss the forests and open fields. Being close to nature helps me when I feel stressed. Since moving to the city I have felt more isolated at times and it feels like I left part of my strength and happiness behind in nature.
Moving my body is very important to me. I cycle every day in Amsterdam and I enjoy movement in any form that feels right. Hiking is especially close to my heart. I did several treks in the Indian Himalayas, which were some of the best times of my life. Being disconnected, moving through nature and feeling grateful for what is there.
At the same time, I am learning how to be kind to myself. I value balance, rest and listening to my own needs. In quieter moments, I enjoy reading and reflecting.

  • Quelles sont vos compétences ?

As an anthropology student, I naturally approach people and groups in culturally sensitive ways. I am alsways open to learn and hear about other ways of living, other opinions and feel skilled in not giving any judgement. I believe that leaving people and their ways of living in their complete value is teh most beautiful way of meeting each other. Apart from that, I speak 5 languages and am naturally very well with children. When I was 17 years old, I wrote a book about my dad's biography. On that note, I also love writing. Any other skills include cleaning and caring, since I work in home care and support people in keeping their homes clean and liveable.
