Description

Hello, my name is Valerija. For the past 10 years, I have been fortunate enough to call London my home. But after 10 years of living in such a big city, I need a break to see more different cultures, communities, countries and try to have a simpler life.

My initial reasons for moving to London were to study fashion as it has great fashion opportunities. Later on, I got into retail and worked as a manager for 6 years and managed my own store. And as of now, I work in personal shopping and work in a bar in the evening, which I will be leaving at the end of June. This is the first time I'm leaving London with no plan to return and letting my life take me where it needs to and see what opportunities unravel along the way, about which I'm super excited about and feel free to let go of that big city lifestyle.

At the moment I'm working on in house project with repainting the whole house and doing all the necessary touch ups for the summer, loads of new maintenance skills to learn which always exciting. I would say in general all my hobbies include a lot of creativity and hands on either painting or making stuff, sewing clothes, designing. Of course, exploring new places and learning about new cultures and traditions is something that absolutely fascinates me hence this is all very exciting. Also this might not sounds as a hobby but I do love to be around people and to socialise listening to peoples stories is so fascinating, you can learn a lot.
Love skiing, hiking , want to get better at my swimming. Also I love animals while being in london I have joined a local community to help out walking neighbours dogs on my days off.

Also, I have started studying coding as I want to change careers and move away from the fashion sector and try out that nomad lifestyle.

The reason I want to try workaway because it is a perfect opportunity to meet new people with the same mindset, experience new things and give back to the community.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I would describe myself as a very hands-on kind of person, who enjoys working a lot.
As it is at the moment, I have two jobs working in personal shopping and also working in a bar in the evenings.
For a large chunk of my life, I was a manager, which of course taught me all sorts of different skills, such, how to work with people, manage the team in the best way to keep them all motivated, for them to be able to make money for the store. The skills that I managed to develop during the time of being a manager are keeping a positive attitude, patience as the job required a lot of training, a can-do attitude, team player, great time-keeping, good communication skills.

From being in the bar as it is a very much face front kind of job, you do learn how to keep the vibe going and make sure people are having fun. Also, being a fully trained cocktail bartender is a skill that comes in handy while travelling. And I have been doing it for a year now and, let me tell you, my espresso martinis are pretty amazing.

To say all of the above, as a teenager me and my grandma did a lot of gardening together and my grandpa showed me how to work with wood. And for the general upkeep skills and painting the house or fixing things, this is something I have been good at since young age. Looking back at my childhood, I was always around my grandpa while he was either fixing things, building or making them from scratch. So if there is anything you need to get done or fixed with loads of laughter and good company, I'm your girl.

Also this summer I really want to up my level of swimming maybe even try to surf.
I do enjoy hiking that is more of a family hobby we have. My family is based around Northern Ireland and the landscape in a region they live in is absolutely spectacular.
