Latest update......We are currently looking for nice people to help us with gardening and small building jobs.
Also people with painting and decorating experience.
We are also always looking for reliable couples to house and animal sit whilst we go on short breaks and adventures ourselves.
We also need help with our environmental NGO, knowledge of wordpress and websites, environmental campaigning, film making, fundraising etc.
We are a British couple with a nine year old girl Living in the East Algarve for over 15 years.
We have renovated several houses in the Algarve and have just finished renovating an old Portuguese farmhouse.
We are working more on the land now, planting fruit trees, developing water storage and retention systems, landscaping and managing our olive and Carob harvests.
We have started a small food forest and are interested in exploring and implementing permaculture and syntropic agroforestry principles.
Amanda is running ceramics workshops from her studio and we are also involved in a local environmental association.
We have chickens and grow our own vegetables and are trying to expand this area of our work.
Stuart used to work in the art department, working on drama for the BBC in the UK. He is now involved in various building projects, property renovations and some photo production work.
Amanda was a documentary television Editor, she is now a full time mum who also runs a small ceramics business and enjoys a more spiritual take on life, including yoga and meditation.
Ideally this project would suit a couple or 2 friends, however singles are welcome.
We are looking for enthusiastic practical people to help us with gardening, landscaping and childcare.
If you Like kids and are interested in building, gardening, sustainable living and environmentalism this project is for you.
Anyone with knowledge in environmental campaigning would be very welcome.
Your accommodation will be a cabin with its own kitchen, dry compost toilet and solar shower.
As a couple we give you 40 euros per week towards buying your own provisions.
We have an old car you can use on weekends, for trips to the beach if it’s available.
The farm house is 20 minutes walking, 10 minutes cycling distance from Santa Catarina, our local village. Here you will find all amenities, cafes, bar, shop, bakery, bank, post office and pharmacy.
This is a great opportunity to learn hands on with building projects, landscaping and gardening.
If you are arty and creative then there maybe some help needed with Amanda's ceramics business.

Great communication, a real eye for detail and super motivated to do all I asked at the best of their ability.

Amanda and Stuart were our first work away hosts and they couldn't have set a higher standard. We felt easily welcomed into their home and their lives and we mostly picked Olives for them, enjoyed walking the dog and hung out with their fantastic daughter Ruby.

Multi talented Merle!
Merle stayed for 2 weeks in September.
She worked incredibly hard, helping with our house renovation. Happy to use a kango drill or paint a mural on your wall. This lady has so many skills to offer.

My boyfriend & I spent three weeks working at this amazing place. Stuart & Amanda were so welcoming & generous to us. We did everything from knocking down walls to "catching lions" with their lovely daughter. This was a great first experience for us & we loved it so much that we have even made plans to go back! Ryan and girlfriend Lana stayed with us for a few weeks in August.
They are solid, practical and reliable. They worked incredibly hard in ferocious heat, helping demolish old stone walls on our new farm house project.

Tom stayed at our farmhouse renovation for 2 weeks in August. Tom was incredibly hard working, even in 35 degree heat.

We didn't have much contact with Natalia as she stayed at another house that we don't usually use for workaway.
She and her boyfriend helped with some painting and decorating.

Jose stayed with us for 2 weeks in December. He is an extremely talented individual with a good eye for detail. Jose helped with some painting and small building jobs, unsupervised, jose gets on with everything that is asked of him. He has useful practical skills and was great with our baby girl too!

Lisa was a very positive and enthusiastic person to have working with us. She is good at listening and not afraid to ask questions to clarify a task. Lisa helped with cleaning, gardening, animal care and Amanda's ceramics. Being both intelligent and diligent, Lisa carried out everything to a high standard. We wish her well.

Jenna stayed with us for one week in February. She was really good at the jobs we gave her which included painting, gardening and cleaning our house. She worked well with minimum supervision and was very thorough.

Stuart and Amanda were very generous, relaxed and fun hosts to stay with. We enjoyed the work and the free time we had-especially the time with their lovely Baby Ruby!
