Description
Hi! I am a medical plant botanist and environmental scientist. I taught a lot at university, but then I continued teaching as an entrepreneur in my own botanical garden. The plants are fertilizer and chemical free. I prefer native plants.
I had been volunteering in New Zealand for several months with wwoofing.
From Philippa 18th April 2023 "Agnes you have a home here any time you wish."
Agnes is a real treasure. She knows so much about plants and quickly learned the NZ plants. She also recognised invasive weeds and was methodical in their removal. One of her many skills is tree pruning. She pruned natives and my poor overgrown olive tree and exterminated (with the help of a pruning saw) several invasive plum trees. Apart from this Agnes quickly learned how to build brick retaining walls (with good level foundations) and made a brick garden bed that had several right angle corners. It is standing proud and is a testament not only to her ability to learn quickly but also to her patience, determination, and skill set. I was sorry to see Agnes leave. Agnes was also a delight in the home and is full of stories of a life very different from ours. We miss you Agnes.
From Cornelia and Kai 4th March 2023 "She has lots of attention to detail"
Ágnes Polyák worked for us at KoruKai Herb Farm for two weeks. She always did her given tasks very well with lots of attention to detail. Her knowledge of the plant world and her experience with gardening helped a lot. She was also great with our kids. We thank her for her work and wish her all the best for the future.
From Tracy 2nd March 2023 "Hard working, diligent and highly recommend "
Ki Ora, Agnes wwoofed at our dry stock farm for nearly two weeks in mid February. During that time she showed me her willingness to work diligently and patiently removed all the troublesome weeds and then made a beautiful makeover of our gardens with beautiful dwarf canna lilies at our entranceway. Agnes requires no supervision and she is an expert in everything to do with botanicals and her speciality is herbs. I found Agnes to be pleasant and her English is excellent.

Agnes was a great helper! She enthusiastically pulled a zillion thistles out of my gardens, and was happy to help with whatever task I asked her to take on. She's a wealth of knowledge about plants and their care, so I learned a lot from her. Thanks so much for all of your help, Agnes!
Zoë (Silly Goose lodge) Canada • August 2025
Agnes was a nice WWOOfer and helped out reliably with the tasks. They have a deep knowledge of wild medicinal plants and are great at weeding.
Fiona (Big Breath Hill) Canada • August 2025
Agnes was the perfect Wwoofer! She worked so hard and came with a bucket full of botanical and herbal knowledge.
George (The Weller Farm) Canada • Sept 2025
Agnes is a remarkable, very well educated woman with extensive knowledge in many fields (medicinal herbs, mushrooms and much more). She is inquisitive and friendly and is looking for a PhD program to apply to in the field of plant science mechanisms. She probably has more knowledge than any place she will visit WWOOFing.
I could leave Agnes to work independently when I was called away and she went over and above to surprise me with huge tasks completed. She never complained about the heat, but managed her time to get up early when it was cooler.
Agnes was fun to get to know and share differences between our cultures and she was helpful sharing ideas about plants and their medicinal uses or invasive qualities.
I’m not sure she learned as much from me as I did from her, but we had some laughs, shared some fun meals and hikes together.
I would recommend her to any WWOOF host, and in fact sent her to her next placement with a friend of mine!

agnes is a godsend! she truly restored my entire orchard, which was definitely out of control, what with the many pruning mistakes i had made in the past. and what's more, she showed me how to properly treat my trees in the future. what a wonderful, knowledgeable woman. and such a pleasure to watch clambering around in the big treetops, saw or shears in hand, stretching agilely over to the next branch to thin the old fruiting clusters or unwanted wrong way branches that cross and are too close to another branch, snip snip and gone, the tree becomes open and balanced. really amazing. you can see she really cares for the trees.
she is also incredibly knowledgeable about plants, herbs, and vegetable, and a natural teacher. as well, she is an extremely hard worker.
agnes would be an asset to anyone who grows plants or has trees. i heartily endorse her.
hedwig.

Gail and Joe (Summer Garden) Canada • Nov 2025
Agnes arrived with an extensive knowledge and experience in pruning, well anything really, to keep it growing and healthy. She was here only 1 week and managed so many trees and shrubs we had not had time for over a few years. Plants are happy, we are happy! Agnes is a great worker sticking to a task until it is completed to her satisfaction, an interesting conversationalist and teacher on all things scientific and botanical, and entirely pleasant to be around. We highly recommend her to any farm.
Lothar (Mayer's Farm) Canada • Nov 2025
Agnes stayed with us 2 weeks and pruned our few Fruit trees, some where damaged by porcupines. She climbed right up in the trees and gave them a fashion cut:) hart work with a hand saw, (she refused the little battery operated saw for small branches we have)
On rainy days she got cleaning jobs inside.
She was a friendly, polite and good wwoofer and we wish her good luck and all the best.
Kevin (Oakview Farm) Canada • Dec 2025
Agnes came for two weeks and stayed for three and I wish we could have had her for even a longer time. An excellent worker, a fountain of knowledge, and a great house guest. She got along well with our staff and was appreciated by all. We wish her the best in the remainder of her travels.
