Description
My name is Maddie & I'm looking to travel again around 2 years after I spent my gap year Workawaying in Maui and Europe with my two best friends. I grew up in NYC, but now attend college in California and am excited about the opportunity to keep traveling this summer following my second year in school.
I'm really excited about the opportunity to meet new people from around the world, an experience I learned so much from when I first got on this site. I love the color green, fresh produce, and all else nature, and my interests in garden and farm work I take from my dad, who is an organic farmer born a conventional farmer in Essex, UK. I also love to draw, collage, embroider, write, and read!
More: I'm easygoing, outdoorsy and I like to get my hands dirty (I listed my experience in carpentry, farming, gardening, land maintenance, etc. below). Finally, I love cooking and trying new recipes!

I have a fair deal of farm work under my belt from working from my dad to Workawaying and WWOOFING; the following are some quick summaries of my experiences:
On my dad's farm, where I was his only helper supporting regenerative his organic farm of 350 acres and seven crop rotation:
- Prepared newly harvested crops for retail using commercial grain cleaning machinery, and seed oil press
- Packaged organic products in a visually appealing way for NYC retail and local rural clients alike
- Adapted and constructed a Johnson-Su bioreactor to develop a fungal-dominant compost that will benefit crops for subsequent decades
- Edited HVHG’s website to improve accessibility and aesthetic of interface
On various farms and Workaway experiences from 2022-2023:
- Seeded, weeded, planted, and harvested produce weekly
- Ensured local clients received timely orders in preferred formats.
- Routinely prepped, weeded, and broad-forked multiple produce beds per day to guarantee continuous production.
- Collected and manually sifted industrial scale compost to spread on produce beds
- Created beeswax products such as chapsticks, resuable wax wraps, etc.
- Lawn care, tree and shrub maintenance
