Hello all, my name is Libby and I am a new face to Workaway! I am a recent grad from the University of Michigan, and after working for the past year in my hometown, I am ready to get out and experience new places. Some things about me: I am an INFP so I'd say I am quite introspective, creative, and emotionally intuitive. Truly, I love to create and my hobbies reflect this - whether it be crafts I've dabbled in (knitting, embroidery, coloring, letter-writing, etc) or writing, etc. Additionally, I feel very connected to nature, animals and love being outdoors - whether it be taking a long walk, going for a run, doing yard work, or reading on a blanket in my backyard or at a park. I am so intrigued by the birds in my neighborhood; I feel moved by fireflies aglow at night. My heart leaps when I spot a wild rabbit. It truly brings me such joy to surround myself with the beautiful, natural landscape of our Earth.

I am also very open to meeting new people and relish those deep, one-on-one conversations I can get into and the special ways in which you can bond with another. I am always thrilled to chat and learn about people's stories and passions. It gives me such life to make genuine connections with others and expose myself to new experiences and perspectives. I am an optimist and am simply amazed by the possibilities and breadth of experience humanity offers! This is why I am motivated to travel, meet people with similar (or different!) interests, explore new environments, and push myself out of my comfort zone.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
- Basic yard work (lopping, weeding, planting, etc) + eager to learn more
- Strong interpersonal skills, as I've worked many customer service positions
- Very proficient English reader, writer, editor (studied literature in school) --> I would be very willing to teach/tutor in the English language
- Patient: I am very patient person, having worked at a senior center with our elder population where I got along amazingly with our clients and found joy in speaking with them, hearing their stories, and making them feel special, seen and loved
- Good with children: I have this same patience and understanding when it comes to children, I have experience with childcare and my whimsical/imaginative side always comes out when watching kids! I will be right there on the floor with them playing dolls, making up games, etc.
- Safety-oriented: While I like to have fun I also take safety very seriously. In any situation, I trust my instincts and make sure that in whatever is being done, the proper precautions are made.

I am a huge reader, and like to discuss literature; I would love to read the same book and then discuss, or swap book recommendations. Additionally, ideally I want to meet/surround myself with other creative people; thinkers and writers and artists...please reach out to me if you would like to connect on any of this. As someone who studied the humanities, I'm not ready to let them go and if possible would love to incorporate art/creativity /passion into wherever this Workaway adventure takes me.

I stayed with Vanessa, Síofra, and their sweet dogs for three months this past fall, from September through December. This review is months overdue! In all honesty, I've been putting it off because I wasn't ready to say goodbye to such an impactful time of my life.

This was my first workaway experience and it couldn't have gone better! From day… read more one, Vanessa and Síofra welcomed me into their home and lives. I arrived to three of Síofra's stuffed teddies lovingly arranged on my bed. I immediately felt comfortable and that this would be a great fit.

Vanessa and Síofra keep a fairly consistent schedule, which made it easy to plan my free time accordingly! I had afternoons and weekends off, and Vanessa is pretty flexible. For example, I was able to take side trips to Edinburgh and the Aran Islands during my time there. In the mornings, while Síofra was at school, I'd complete various chores like vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, tidying toys, etc. This never took me more than an hour or two. Vanessa has a schedule for what is to be done each day, so I always knew what was expected!

After school, Síofra and I would usually play, whether outside when the weather was nice, or inside! She has tons of toys and no lack of imagination; it's amusing to see the stories she comes up with. I learned a lot from her, especially about horses (her favorite animal!).

We also did lots of crafts! If you're a creative person, like I am, you'll truly fit right in. As an artist, Vanessa has tons of art supplies, and Síofra and I dabbled in many mediums. We drew, we sewed, and made things out of clay. We even built one of her Schleich horses—Bubbles—a stable.

The mild Irish climate made it so easy to spend time outside. (Just make sure to pack a raincoat!) We often took the dogs to the beach, a ten-minute walk down the road, or drove to the Spiddal or Salthill beaches. Besides the company, this was my favorite part of living here. Being so close to the Connemara coast was magical. In my free time, I took long walks along the coast. But it was equally enchanting to traverse the roads further inland; many homes keep cattle, sheep or horses. I loved stumbling across these beautiful animals whilst on long walks; it felt like I was living in a fairytale! Vanessa lives in the perfect spot to get a mix of country and coastal scenery.

Galway is around a 25 minute bus ride away, (Salthill even less!) and it's easy to catch the bus at the end of Vanessa's road or from the local pub. I went to the city often and never had much of an issue catching the bus; one comes at least every hour, and they run until around 11 pm! This made my stay the perfect balance of city and country life. I got to experience the vibrant music culture, lively pubs (and of course, brilliant Guinness!) that Galway offers, along with the charming Connemara countryside and coast.

Overall, Síofra is a wonderful kid to look after. She brought out my whimsical, childlike side and engaged my imagination every day. I was more than happy to spend time with her; it never felt like work, it felt natural, and we became fast friends. I miss her dearly! My stay with Vanessa and Síofra was a time I will cherish forever. I'm beyond grateful that I got to share life with them for a few months.
