Hello,

My name is Dan and I am from Los Angeles. I work during the school year as a mathematics educator. I have always been passionate about learning new crafts, meeting, and helping good people from all walks of life. I am planning a summer road trip around the USA to visit some of the places I have never been. In particular, since my grandparents were from the Midwest, I would love to meet folks in this area during my trip. I have had wonderful experiences as a "workawayer" during my trips to Europe, where I worked with organic sustainable living communities in areas such as construction, farming, and even teaching English.

I am kind, hardworking, and I love the outdoors. I hope to have a chance to meet you and create memorable moments.

I am hardworking and dedicated to complete any task given to me while going the extra mile. I have worked as a teacher, in gardening, construction, general labor, et cetera. I also have a passion for organic foods as I once worked for an organic food cafe in Los Angeles. I am a believer in clean, faithful living by which I mean no alcohol nor drugs.

I had the most amazing time and experience in the settlement at the Space of Love! I arrived there in late May, invited by Nataliya just at the beginning of summer. I was shown around the village and got acquainted to everyone primarily through Nataliya who right away welcomed me to stay in the guest house. I was instantly welcomed by everyone I… read more met and they were curious to find out more about me and my reason for being there. I had previously been an academic tutor in America so I felt I could help the kids in the settlement learn some English and share cultural values. I also have Ukrainian heritage so I was interested in any kind of language or cultural exchange that they could provide as well. And how the summer progressed was more than I could ever ask for!

Throughout the summer, I gave lessons to Nataliya’s daughter and neighbors Anya and Victor’s kids in their beautiful spacious classroom. The children were at various levels of learning English and through many lessons, activities, and games each of the kids had progressed noticeably in their learning. The ones who couldn’t read at least learned several new words in addition to learning how to count. The ones who could already read definitely picked up speed in their reading and better pronunciation plus understanding. The lessons were held every weekday and although the kids got tired of the lessons at times, we always made it fun and entertaining by playing games, going swimming, working in the garden, playing football, going on quests, etc. when things got dull. Not to mention I received home cooked meals every single day made of the fresh produce from the garden or delicatessens from the local shops. The food was incredible and different every day, and ranged from traditional Ukrainian dishes to simple yet delicious vegetarian meals.

I met so many friends and family members of the hosts from the village and surrounding cities. Every single person I got acquainted with, even with my limited Russian, we shared memorable times, good food & music, and friendly company. I even got to go on a train trip to the Karpaty Mountains with Anya’s good friend Tetiana and her family where we climbed mount Horvela and visited various cities in Western Ukraine. Most of the free time I had in the settlement I spent going on walks in the forest, walks to the village, swimming in the lakes or river, reading, playing guitar, football, and meeting people. I had such a great time there, feeling so welcomed that I didn’t want to leave, but I finally did in mid August. I want to give a special thanks to Nataliya for introducing me to this wonderful place truly full of love, even offering me to stay in her place when she left town. And to Anya and Victor for inviting me to their house every single day to serve food for me, thinking so highly of me as a teacher, sharing great moments as friends do, and for providing me a place to stay in their cabin for most of the time I was there. I can never be grateful enough for the friends I made here and the memories I made. The space of love is truly one of a kind thanks to all the amazing people there!
