Description
After spending the last little while living in Spain, I have returned to Vancouver and I’m looking to lay down roots and build a life here. I’ve started getting involved with some great causes my parents house being in Ladner makes it difficult for me to get involved as much as I would like to, so I’m looking to move closer to Vancouver. I’d love to find a synergistic work exchange with people who genuinely love sharing life together as life is just so much more colorful we do it together.

I am not the handiest person, but I know how to learn. If you give me a task, I will figure it out eventually. I have previously done a Workaway at an animal shelter in which I (albeit for a short period of time) helped walk and socialize a pair of rather traumatized dogs and generally take care of them. The other tasks I have the most experience with are yardwork, typical house chores, and cooking. Over the last year I have learnt so much about cooking and different cuisines and I would love to share that with you and learn from you as well!
I also can and would love to teach guitar to anyone that wants to learn!

What can I say. I only spent 3 and a half weeks here and in just that time, it set a standard when it comes to intentional communities for me that will be extremely difficult to match. But the circumstances aren't like this by accident. Everything is very much on purpose, without feeling rigid or imposing.

It starts with Raul. As others have… read more mentioned, he is an amazing leader, one who makes you feel so valued, so heard, so included, not just with his actions, but with the culture he has created. This is a culture of abundance, kindness, levity, spontaneity, authenticity, trust, good communication, and of flexibility and openness. It's a place where the norm is to spend time and enjoy life together, but where you're completely valid in doing your own thing. It's a place where everyone's unique gift is invited to be shared and celebrated with and by everyone. As I said, the culture and people are very open, and things (procedures, traditions, activities) evolve to better serve all of the people and dogs living there.

The dogs are amazing, but you don't need to be a dog lover to thrive here. Most of the tasks don't involve working directly with them. Since leaving, I've been to a couple of communities which didn't have dogs or another significant animal presence, and I can say the energy and love that the dogs exudes definitely spills over into the people living here, as well as gives them a shared purpose and common ground to connect over. The same goes for the work. The act of working together helps facilitate the trust and understanding we give to one another while at the same time making everyone feel like they have a say in what happens. It never feels imposed though. There are so many opportunities to work in so many different areas and to really learn a lot.

Don't come with many expectations, take your time and mostly observe over the first couple of days, say yes and go with the flow, and it should be a relatively smooth transition. It's an intense environment for those who haven't experienced living in community, but I have a feeling many who come, realize here that something like this was exactly what they needed; they just didn't know it yet. With this review, it wasn't my intention to idealize a place; it's not possible nor realistic to expect a place to solve all one's problems and we're still all stuck with ourselves at the end of the day, but at the same time, the modern way most of us live in mainstream society is also not helping the problems we have.

Thank you again Raul, for creating this place, as well as everyone who has made this project what it is today. I miss everyone already so much, and I look forward to being back in the near future.

Adrià is a great host that has built a lovely environment that chooses to stay, work, or visit here. The work is not easy not hard, hella meaningful though. Daniel stayed with us for a week. It was lovely to have with us and he helped us a lot during that time. He walked our dogs, cleaned up after them, feed them and helped with general shelter maintenance. He owned his tasks and handled them all very responsibly.
