Hi I'm Yannik! I'm open-minded and always curious to try new things and meet loving and caring people. Being in nature is a very important part of my life, as well as being active. I like to connect with people, places and the cultures within. When I'm not on a walk or in conversations I enjoy reading a book or making music. I try to contribute my part of saving our planet by living mindfully, working and studying in the field of renewable energies.
I'm based in Freiburg in Germany which is a fascinating city surrounded by forest and mountains with a lot of like-minded people. Here I study my masters degree at the moment with students from all over the world, that's why my master is taught in english and it's a great exchange of culture and knowledge!
I was backpacking a lot in south-east asia and my last big trip was to Chile to go hiking in the great Torres del Paine but also spending time with locals and sharing thoughts about life. Now I want to give something back and also give travelling more meaning than just the "been there, done that" mentality. A friend I met in my studies - thank you Tiernan - told me about workaway and now I'm finally here.

Language is our access to understanding and the basis to connect with each other, that's why I believe it is very important to be able to communicate with people from all over the world. This is my motivation for continuing to learn and teach languages and broaden my knowledge I already have.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I got a bachelor in mechanical engineering (soon master) which gave me a big theoretical background about engineering, especially in sustainability and renewable energy. Also my work in an institute for solar energy systems is helping to gain understanding in these topics.
I'm experienced with using a chainsaw and I can use basic construction tools even though I never worked in that area (but grew up on the country side).
I have a (international) drivers licence.
I have a basic education as an experiental educator and I worked with school classes in a climbing forest aswell as in classrooms.

Autres infos...

I really like hiking, also for a longer period of time. Then I can really conncect with nature and it's just one of the best feelings to go to sleep in your sleeping bag while watching the stars...
Also I'm a big fan of spontaneous evenings that happen with friends and strangers where you end up talking about everything and anything...
