Description

Hi there!

My name is Siri. After living and working in Manchester for a few years, I am once again ready to pack my bags and embark on a new journey.

I have been moving from country to country most of my life, as I haven't yet found anything that can beat the joy of exploring new places and meeting new faces. I have been living in Manchester, UK for the past few years, working at a University, and am having to admit the office life might not be for me.

I grew up in a forest in Denmark and have been around horses for most of my life. At home, we would always help with all the outdoor tasks. I am not great with a chainsaw, but I can stack a mean pile of wood! From when I was 12, I independently looked after a horse and started working cleaning jobs to pay for her, so through this, I learned responsibility from a young age. When I was 15, I left my family and moved to London, UK, to study leatherwork.

I love being outdoors and take pleasure in routines and hard work (granted the outcome is one worth working towards) ;). I am easy-going and live by a strong philosophy of doing what I say I'm going to do, as nothing other than this has ever made sense to me.

I am (fairly) new to WorkAway and am so excited to see what adventures this platform will have to offer! 🌍✨

I have been trying to learn French on Duolingo (a language app) for years, but am not getting very far. I have been doing it for ages, so do believe I am building up a small vocabulary, that would hopefully benefit me if I actually started to learn. I am from Denmark and speak Danish fluently. I do not have any official teaching experience, but would love to share my knowledge with anyone interested. I have been living in the UK for over 8 years and speak English fluently.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I am good at a wide mixture of outdoor tasks. I have been helping out at my mother's farm, doing everything from looking after animals to clearing brambles along what felt like miles of electric fence.

We've always used an electric woodchopper at home, as firewood was our main source of heat. While I am not experienced using an electric saw, carrying wood out of the forest, chopping, and stacking it is something I've been doing my whole life.

I started riding when I was 8 but never received many lessons. I am a competent rider, particularly in general riding, though not in dressage or jumping. I have looked after my own horse for years and used to help out on a trotter race course. I've also spent a lot of time around cows and, in general, just love animals!

I am a certified saddler and shoemaker, having studied leatherwork for three years in London. I lived in Canada for a while, where I worked in a production line making high-quality harnesses. Additionally, I ran my own small leather goods business when I was living in Denmark, producing wallets, boxes, and belts (@siri_leather on Instagram).

When I was young, I worked as a cleaner in an elderly lady's house, which was a good fit for me as I like everything to be clean and orderly. I have never been able to leave my room in the morning without making my bed first. I have also worked in a supermarket, in pubs, and in a variety of office jobs, with my most recent one being at Manchester Metropolitan University, where I worked with assessment regulations and processes.

Overall, I am a fast learner and am happy to take on a variety of tasks!

I love reading and writing, and will rarely leave the house without a book. I have been trying to teach myself yoga and meditation for a while, and have found both of these extremely helpful grounding techniques.

I love being a social butterfly, but have also always really enjoyed and needed my own space and being on my own. I value this quality as it enables me to not be so dependent on my environment and makes it easy for me to fit in almost anywhere.

I am always up for a game of cards, a long walk, and a nice swim :D.
