Description

Hi, my name is Shaylee Adams and I am 27 years old. I am from Ottawa, Canada and absolutely love to travel. I participated in a student exchange in Leeds, England a few years ago and spent the majority of my time exploring different European countries. Since then, my dreams of any big travel got sidetracked by the pandemic. Now that things are picking up again, I'm very excited to get back on the road and see more of the world. I am particularly drawn to alternative ways of life different from the Western mindset. I find myself wanting to live more mindfully and less centered around a 9-5 lifestyle.

I am a very sociable and friendly person. I enjoy interacting with a variety of people, while balancing with my desire for independence. I especially love meeting people with varied backgrounds and experiences. I am also a very passionate and curious. I am open to learning new skills during my Workaway experiences and learning more about the countries I am visiting. I also love adventure. Hike a volcano, learn to surf, camp on a mountain – I am in!

I think I am a good mix of spontaneous and a careful planner. I adapt to each situation to determine what would work best, but I like doing both. Outside of travelling, I enjoy reading, yoga, cooking, and puzzles! I got into yoga about two years ago and it has become a large passion of mine. I would love the opportunity to learn more about yoga and deepen my practice if that is possible. I am also quite a spiritual person and love to connect with people’s energies and talk about deeper topics. I think that volunteering with Workaway will give me that space to meet other like-minded travellers, while also making meaningful contributions to the countries I am visiting. 😊

I am a native English speaker but I have been working with a tutor for the past few years to improve my French. I am also trying to learn Spanish before my backpacking trip. I have my TEFL certificate to be able to teach English and I am very open to learning more French and Spanish.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have a degree in Communications and a diploma in social media management. I have worked as a Communications advisor for the last 4 years. Most of my experience lies in strategic/brand planning, social media, media relations, and marketing. I also have some skills in graphic design, administrative tasks, and all Microsoft 365 programs like Excel, Word, OneNote etc. I

I also find great joy in cooking for people. I love experimenting in the kitchen and trying new foods. I am a vegetarian and have been trying new plant-based recipes!

Working with kids is another skill of mine – any age, it doesn’t matter! I have been volunteering with Girl Guides in Canada, helping young girls pick up life skills and having a blast doing it. I enjoy teaching, playing, and overall goofing around with kids.

I also have my ‘Teaching English as a Foreign Language’ (TEFL) certificate. I would love to teach English in any format to practice my skills.

Need things tidied? I am your gal for organization – a bit of a neat freak, you could say. I quite enjoy organizing and cleaning – it oddly calms me haha.

I am also open to labour jobs such as farming, painting, and gardening. I love spending time outside so any thing I can do while I soak up the sun is worth learning!

I wanted to add that I am very interested in world issues and other cultures, as well as progressive politics. I am a huge believer in equality and human rights. I like to constantly learn about these kinds of topics and continue to educate myself.

Another passion of mine is sustainability and caring for the environment. I am quite conscious of my carbon footprint and my waste. I try very hard to continuously educate myself and stay up to date on conversation regarding our climate!

A few other things about me is that I love board games, card games, crocheting, and hiking. Doing crafts outdoors brings me great joy 😊
