Description
Hello. I am Tian, 31 years old. I grew up and lived for 25 years in the Canary Islands It is about 6 years now that I am travelling and/or doing seasonal work abroad and occasionally I go back to the Canaries for some months to work in hotels and earn money to continue the journey.
When I finished high school I started working in the hospitality and tourism industry and have been in all kinds of positions, from waiter to bookkeeper, maintenance department (general building maintenance, pool maintenance, gardening), and also for a bunch of years as a receptionist (front desk).
From 2015 up to early 2020 I managed a small group of Villas that were rented out as holiday homes with 3 other full-time workers which I was in charge of coordinating to ensure that work ran smoothly. Occasionally, whenever we did any reforms on a house, or a larger job needed to be done with more urgency, the team could be up to 7 workers.
In 2018 I volunteered for the first time on a Marine Wildlife Conservation Project. This was an experience that truly blew my mind and, without a doubt, deeply modified the course of my life. So I repeated this in 2019 for a bit over a month as a volunteer.
In 2020 I joined a sea turtle conservation and monitoring project in Greece where I spent the whole season (June - to the end of September)
2021 and 2022 I spent in Costa Rica, working on a Biological Field Station which I originally came to as a volunteer and after 6 months I was offered to stay and become staff and get paid for the work I did. My main focus was on the turtle project, but when turtle season was over I learned to catch and handle snakes (which I loved!) and we also carried out surveys in the jungle searching for large mammal tracks (paca, agouti, jaguar...), otter surveys (where we collected genetic samples from scat). We also carried out research on macaws and did activities with the kids of the local community. My time in Costa Rica is a period I will always remember and, even though after almost 2 years there, I felt like I had to return to Europe for some time, I am eager to find a job opportunity there again.
I have always had a great interest in nature, wildlife, forests, and oceans... Having grown up on a small island in the middle of the Atlantic, I like to always have near to me a large body of water. My island is a very flat and dry place, so green nature, with trees, rivers and high mountains also amuse me a lot.
I can work well on my own as well as in a team. I have knowledge of general building maintenance and pool maintenance, and I have some concepts of electricity and electrical installations, both AC and DC. I can do basic carpentry jobs, as well as bricklaying. I am always enthusiastic to learn new abilities and skills.
I believe I have a lot of patience, which makes me pay special attention to details. I consider myself to have a proactive attitude when it comes to work and will be happy to take the initiative and assign tasks when working in a team. I strongly believe that it is important to set an example when leading a team, rather than sit back and point the finger.
In many things, I am no expert but will be happy to share and teach all the skills and methods I know to whom has any interest.
I also enjoy cooking a lot. I always have done. I truly came to realize that I am very capable when it comes to working in a kitchen during my time in Costa Rica. I often was in charge of the meals, cooking for groups of 7-15 people, and on some occasions up to 20 people. With larger groups, I had help in the kitchen and managed well to coordinate the work in the time frame we had to make the meal, but when we were about 10 people, I was often on my own. I actually enjoyed taking away from my free time to spend longer in the kitchen to produce good, tasty meals, which the volunteers always very much appreciated after the long hours of sweaty surveys in the jungle, often carried out in heavy tropical rain, or under the blazing sun. The tasty meals were, without a doubt, one of the key factors in keeping up the morale of the team (especially in the rainy season when we would often be flooded).
Just ask me for any more info you want or need to know, and I will be glad to share it with you.Centres d’intérêt

My time at Sarah's and Andy's place was great! We were 2 people and a dog and originally planned for something like a 2-week stay but ended up doing about a month! We did some tree pruning as well as some work down at the stable with the horses. We also spent time making door frames for their lovely… read more
My time at Colm's place was really good! I got an incredibly good impression of Italy after spending time here. I have always been more of a seaside person, but I fell in love with the Tuscan Mountains.

My time spent with Greg at his place was amazing! I originally went for two weeks and ended up staying almost a month! I would have stayed longer, but I was on a journey to Greece, so after 4 weeks I felt like it was time to continue. The location is incredible, in the south part of the… read more
