I am studying a Master in Marine Biotechnology in the city of Valencia, interested in learning about local culture but also continue practicing french and italian while discovering Europe.

Hello there!

I'm 27 years old, born and raised in the city of the eternal spring: Medellín, Colombia. I finished my bachelor's as a chemical engineer and I have been working in the research and development department of a coffee company since then. I focus on the fermentation processes of coffee, but I have had the opportunity to learn a lot about the world of coffee in general, including roasting, industrial processes, and cupping.

Now I am eager to begin with another chapter in my life as I have been granted a scholarship to study a Master's in Marine Biotechnology in Europe. I have been passionate about biotechnology since I was in the university, and I have loved the sea ever since I have memory, so it seems like a really good fit :) Also, it provides me with the opportunity to travel and get to know several cultures and places, so I want to take advantage of the time I am there to travel and learn as much as I can!

I like to practice sports, travel, learn new languages (french, italian, dutch), and get to know different cultures. Traveling with Workaway has proven to be the perfect match for me, and I can't imagine a way of traveling that I enjoy more. I love it so much because of the cultural learning and the connections that come with it. I am fortunate enough to have established real friendships with the host families that I have had. I can't wait for the next one :D

I am pretty much open to helping in what I can. I get along with children very easily, so I do pretty well in babysitting, though I'm just learning how things work with babies. I can also teach Spanish and English to a good level (not professional). I can cook and help with all kinds of stuff if there's somebody who can teach me how (I'm willing to learn about everything! I love to learn). Now that my life will be tied to the sea, I would love to have some experiences sailing or enjoying life close to the sea.

I used to play basketball all the time when I was younger. Now I try to stay sporty by running and playing basketball from time to time. I am curious about other sports that are not so common in my city, and so far I have tried snowboarding and surfing which I have enjoyed very much (I am still learning the basics though). Also, I have recently learned to dive and I fell in love with the sport. I would love to practice them more!

On a personal level, each day I try to learn from the lessons life gives. I like to think that I'm a curious man. I try to be interested a lot in the world that surrounds me and I have a special interest in the ways of thinking of different people, different cultures, religions, philosophies, etc. I consider myself very calm, easygoing, honest, and responsible.

As a personal philosophy, I view life as a trip and happiness as a way of travel. Therefore, I try to enjoy the most out of every experience that I have.

Hola!!

Soy un jóven de 27 años de la ciudad de la eterna primavera: Medellín, Colombia. Me gradué como ingeniero químico y he estado trabajando en el departamento de investigación y desarrollo de una compañía de café desde entonces. Me enfoco especialmente en los procesos de fermentación de café, pero he tenido la oportunidad de aprender mucho sobre el mundo del café en general, incluyendo torrefacción de café, sus procesos industriales y catación.

Ahora estoy muy feliz de comenzar un nuevo capítulo en mi vida al haber recibido una beca para estudiar una maestría en biotecnología marina en Europa. Desde que estaba en la universidad me ha apasionado la biotecnología, y desde que tengo memoria me ha encantado el mar, por lo que parece una buena mezcla :) Adicionalmente, me proporciona la oportunidad de viajar y conocer diferentes lugares y culturas, así que quiero aprovechar el tiempo allí para viajar y aprender tanto como pueda!

Me gusta practicar deportes, viajar, aprender nuevos idiomas (francés, italiano, neerlandés) y conocer diferentes culturas. Viajar con Workaway ha demostrado ser la mezcla perfecta para mi, y no imagino una forma de viajar que me guste más debido al aprendizaje cultural y conexiones que vienen con este tipo de experiencias. He tenido la suerte de formar verdaderas amistades con las familias con las que me he hospedado, y no puedo esperar por la siguiente :D

Estoy dispuesto a ayudar en lo que pueda. Normalmente me es fácil llevármela bien con los niños(as), así que me ha ido bien en trabajos de cuidar de ellos, aunque apenas estoy aprendiendo sobre cuidar bebés. También he enseñado español e inglés a un buen nivel (no profesional). Puedo cocinar y también ayudar con diferentes tareas. Desde que alguien esté dispuesto a enseñarme, yo estoy dispuesto a aprender! Ahora que mi vida va a estar ligada al mar, me encantaría tener experiencias navegando o disfrutando de la vida cerca del mar.

Cuando era más joven jugaba baloncesto todo el tiempo. Ahora trato de mantenerme deportivo practicando trote y jugando baloncesto de vez en cuando. Me llaman mucho la atención otros deportes que no son comunes en mi ciudad, y hasta el momento he intentado con snowboarding y surf, experiencias que he disfrutado mucho (aunque todavía estoy en lo básico). Además, hace poco aprendí a bucear y me enamoré del deporte. Me encantaría practicarlos más.

A nivel personal, cada día trato de aprender de las lecciones que da la vida. Me gusta pensar que soy un joven curioso, trato de interesarme mucho por el mundo que me rodea y me generan especial interés la ciencia, las formas de pensar de diferentes personas, las diferentes culturas, religiones, filosofías, etc. Como persona, me considero a mi mismo muy calmado y fácil de tratar, responsable y honesto.

A modo de filosofía personal veo la vida como un viaje, y la felicidad como una manera de viajar, por lo que trato de sacarle el máximo provecho a cada experiencia que tengo.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have been a children's basketball trainer, where we had to train about 60 kids a day and I truly enjoyed the experience. So, I believe this shows that I have the ability to teach. I also have practice in babysitting-childcare (I usually get along very easily with the kids), language practice, helping with computers, and some DIY projects.

I consider that I learn things quickly so I should be able to help with all kinds of things if someone can teach me first how to do them. Most of all, I have the will and eagerness to learn, which I think is very important in anything you do.

I'm no chef, but I have some experience cooking. I'd love to learn recipes from other places. I know how to make beers and wines ;)

He sido entrenador de baloncesto de niños, allí estuve en contacto con unos 60 niños al día y de verdad disfruté mucho la experiencia. Creo que esto muestra que tengo la habilidad de enseñar. También tengo experiencia en el cuidado de niños (normalmente me la llevo bien con ellos rápido), práctica de lenguajes, ayudando con computadores y algunos proyectos caseros con madera y DIY.

Considero que aprendo las cosas rápido así que debería poder ayudar en todo tipo de cosas si hay alguien que pueda enseñarme primero cómo hacerlas. Principalmente, tengo las ganas de aprender, lo cual creo es muy importante en cualquier cosa que uno hace.

No soy chef, pero tengo alguna experiencia cocinando, me gustaría mucho aprender recetas de otros lugares. Sé hacer cervezas y vinos ;)
