Description
I'm a Masters Student in Vienna studying public history! Even as a child, I loved stories about kings and queens. Having grown up in Lahore, Pakistan, a city with a rich history, I was able to take a lot of walking tours in the old city. Enjoying classical South Asian music at the restored royal baths became a favorite winter activity. I also love South Asian food, which I have been trying to learn to cook for the past year. I think a few months ago, I finally got the hang of it!
Back in Pakistan, I practiced as a lawyer for some time. I'm very involved in local social initiatives and enjoy community work. In particular, women's rights and and religious freedom are two causes close to my heart. But I've also been learning more about environmental concerns, especially with the unique vulnerability climate change poses to my home country.
Through my Masters, I've been able to travel to different countries and learn about their history. My six months in Japan were really exciting as I had been learning Japanese since I was a child and finally got to practice it. I also speak Korean, Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi and of course, English. Right now, I am learning German alongside my Masters. It's a fun language and I hope to practice it more during my workaway!
Having lived in four countries in the past year and a half (Austria, Hungary, Japan and Portugal), I've really grown to appreciate the joy of meeting and befriending people from different cultures. I'm open minded, sociable, and cheerful! Although, I wouldn't describe myself as a very athletic person, in the last year, I really grew to enjoy hiking. There's just something about the view at the top after all the toil and trouble of getting there.Centres d’intérêt

I’ve always been drawn to different languages and cultures, and it’s been such a fun journey for me. I first started learning Japanese by watching anime when I was growing up, which really sparked my interest. This year, I had the chance to live in Japan for six months, and I was able to practice a lot. I can hold conversations in Japanese, but reading is still a bit of a challenge, especially with Kanji – it’s tough to get the hang of! I also took formal courses up until an intermediate level. Korean was another language I picked up growing up through Korean dramas. In 2019, I lived in Korea for six months, which gave me the perfect opportunity to really practice. I’m happy with my level of Korean, and my conversational skills are pretty solid. The Korean alphabet (Hangul) is super easy to learn, and even if I forget a little bit, I only need a quick refresher to remember it again. I grew up speaking English, Urdu, and Punjabi, so I’m a native speaker in all of those. I also speak Hindi fluently, as it’s very similar to Urdu, although I can't read it because the alphabet is different. For the past year, I’ve been learning German and I’m currently at an intermediate level (B1). I’m really excited to continue improving, especially by practicing with native speakers! Overall, languages have always been a big part of my life, and I love the idea of being able to connect with people from different backgrounds. I’m always up for practicing or learning something new, so if you speak any of these languages, let’s chat!Compétences et connaissances que j'aimerais partager ou apprendre

Quelles sont vos compétences ?
I’m originally from Lahore, Pakistan, and I used to work as a criminal lawyer back home. I also studied Art History, which sparked my love for culture and history. Right now, I’m studying Public History, which is all about telling the stories of the past in interesting and meaningful ways.
I’m a huge fan of languages and can speak quite a few! I’m fluent in English, Urdu, and Hindi, and I also speak Korean and Japanese. Right now, I’m learning German at an intermediate level and am super excited to improve my skills while getting to know more about Austrian culture.
I’m a very social person and love meeting new people. I’m also pretty handy around the house – I’m great at cleaning, organizing, and even painting my own room (I’m fast at learning new things!). I also love cooking, especially South Asian food – my specialties include Daal (lentils), Chicken Palak (chicken and spinach), Aalu Gobi (potato and cauliflower), and Pulao (chicken with rice). I’d be happy to cook a delicious meal for you!
I’ve worked as a part-time tutor, teaching Sociology, Law, and English, so I’m always up for a good conversation. I also enjoy public speaking and have a good understanding of politics and history – so if you’re up for a chat, I’m your person!
I’ve lived in a few places like Korea, Japan, Austria, Hungary, and Portugal, so I’m pretty well-traveled and open-minded. I love experiencing new cultures, and I’m always excited to learn something new along the way.
Although most of the skills I can list here are related to academics, I think I'm quick to learn! I would be happy to help out with tasks like DIY repairs or building, or farm work.Âge

I’m a big fan of board games! Whether it's strategy games or something fun and lighthearted, I love getting together with people to play. I also enjoy going on walking tours, as I think it's a great way to learn about a place and its history.
I’m fairly new to hiking, and while I might not have the best stamina just yet, I really enjoy the experience and am always up for a scenic trail.
When it comes to breaking the ice with new people, I’m the type who’ll throw out some fun “Would You Rather” questions to get everyone talking. I’m also super close to my nephews and get along really well with kids in general.
Growing up, I had a lot of pets—cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, goats, and even peacocks! So, I’m very comfortable taking care of animals. That said, I am a little squeamish around reptiles.Informations complémentaires
