Hello! My name is Marc, and I am a 27-year-old Young People's Worker from Kirkcaldy, Fife.

My job working for a Scottish children's charity requires me to be a very personable and empathetic person, something in which I carry across into my personal life and life on the road, too.

I have joined Workaway because of my love for travel and meeting fun and interesting new people. However, I am at a point in my life where I want my travels to mean more than just ticking off places of interest, or wandering through a city. I want to know how it really feels to live in these places and what it means to be a local.

I am open to all kinds of work, but am mainly hoping to be involved in working alongside animals, as this a career I am looking to get into - and I believe Workaway is the perfect first step in doing so!

Some of my hobbies and interests include running (I have ran three Marathons and counting!), playing football, hiking, pet sitting (my most recent one included 5 cats and two dogs), and visiting local cafes in Edinburgh and Fife.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have hands-on animal care experience in feeding, walking and bathing cats and dogs. I will soon enrol in an online Animal Care course that will provide areas of learning such as pet first aid, pet nutrition, pet psychology, canine communication, dog grooming, and cat behaviour.

I have vast experience in working with both adults and children with learning disabilities, including autism. I first began working in this field when I took part in the Camp America programme in the summers of 2018 and 2019. Here, I worked at a summer camp that was specifically adapted to the needs of individuals with learning and physical disabilities. As a Camp Counselor, it was my responsibility to ensure participants enjoyed a fulfilling camp experience. I took part in, and sometimes lead several activities such as fishing, scavenger hunts, basketball, campfire songs, canoeing and horse grooming. During my two summers working in Strongsville, Ohio, I worked and lived alongside international staff members from all over and have formed long lasting relations with people from UK, USA, Jordan, New Zealand, and South Africa, to name a few.

I am a very active person and would say that I am in good physical condition. I regularly visit the gym and run outdoors, and mostly travel on foot when going places at home.
