Hi readers, I’m Malek, from Egypt.

I am a Filmmaker with a background in film, anthropology and gender studies. I work with photography and film at the present, and I’ve spent the past year traveling and working in tourism across different parts of Egypt, meeting people from many cultures and backgrounds. I have also travelled to many places worldwide during my studies and childhood. I am also a musician, I play mostly arabic oriental instruments and percussion.

I’m interested in experiences that are about exchange, care, and slow living rather than fast travel. I enjoy cooking, sharing meals, and helping in spaces where people live and work together naturally and I do take some great photos and videos to mark my adventures.

I don’t come with many technical or construction skills, but I’m reliable, very much observant, and present. I’m happy to help with kitchens, guesthouses, photography, guests, or daily tasks, and I enjoy learning by doing. Changing my environment always unlocks many parts of my character and creativity that has led me to be a kind of a travel addict.

I very much value respect for local culture, people, and land considering my anthropology background, and I’m drawn to places that are simple, community-oriented, and grounded rather than party-focused. The most important aspect I believe in is the ethics of movement and connecting with different cultures in a way that is respectful and mindful

I am new to Workaway and I see it as a chance to contribute quietly, learn from others, and experience life from the inside, not as a tourist, and I believe that I have all the experience of alternative travel that brings me on this website at this moment of time.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have experience in photography and filmmaking, including documenting spaces, people, and daily life in a natural, perhaps more artistic non staged way. I can help with photo or video content for guesthouses, retreats, or family run places if needed.

I enjoy cooking and helping in kitchens , preparing meals, assisting with food prep, and sharing recipes. Learning about new food cultures is always a dream of mine.

I’ve worked in tourism and hospitality across different parts of Egypt, so I’m used to interacting with guests from diverse backgrounds and helping with daily operations in a respectful, calm way.

I’m reliable with routine tasks such as organizing spaces, helping guests, some admin, and general day to day help. I learn quickly and I’m comfortable adapting to new environments.

I don’t have experience with heavy construction or carpentry or farming, but I’m very open to learning hands-on tasks when guidance is given.

I like to connect with musicians and experience different music cultures. I am curious about spirituality and love to engage with how people connect with nature and their world in different cultures. I come from an anthropology background so I read a lot about local culture and it is what interests me the most when I travel. I am at a transitional phase of my life and travel offers a way where I experience how vast and also universal life is and how to choose my own philosophy for how I want to live and experience my life on this earth.
