Watching a movie and discussing it with friends, going hiking in the summer, swimming in natural bodies of water, taking my friends horseback riding at my stable, moving into a new house and finding furniture for all the rooms, dancing, dinner parties, doing the crossword puzzle.

Now that I have reached my adult life, happiness can feel fleeting and elusive; and, it's not typically a sensation that I spend time speculating about. More so, I spend my time figuring and refiguring how I can afford to live my life. Which is part of the reason I feel so deeply motivated to travel before the grave reality of needing a job sets in. I am motivated to learn how I react in environments and cultures that are vastly different than my own surrounded by people who may not immediately understand me. I want to be in a position of where I have to speak another language in order to communicate all the while learning the customs and irregularities of a particular town or region.

I wholeheartedly believe that traveling is one of the most rewarding and precious acts humans can undertake. Growing up in the United States, our education of the world is generally limited to details that are specifically pertinent to American imperialism and control (e.g. think American interference in WWII.) Therefore, I am seeking an alternative education to the one we received in school; one where I actually understand and comprehend important nuances in language, geography, and place-specific history.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

We are both very proficient in building and smaller construction projects. Luke spent a summer working as a handyman for a construction company: repairing roofs, installing flooring, renovating bathrooms etc. My job (Maddie) as a set decorator necessitates a basic knowledge of building, construction, and random assembly tasks.

We both come from families that love to camp, and backpack so we both feel very comfortable in the elements and everything being outside entails.

Luke has lived, raised, and handled chickens. We both grew up with dogs and cats.

Since the time I was six years old I worked, rode, and helped train English jumping horses. Despite not growing up in the country, I took lessons from a young age which segued into volunteering at the barn, which eventually landed me work as an instructor and caretaker of twenty horses. My endless hours at the barn has not only taught me an ungodly amount about horses and various behaviors, but also about what animal care really involves. It requires attentiveness, hard work, and above all else love for the animals and wellbeing.

We are both interested in mountaineering and I am particularly interested in rock climbing, Learning how to cook better food, which goes hand in hand with discovering native plants and how to use them medicinally.
