Hey there! I’m Jiayi (Marcie), 26 years old, and I’m from Xi'an, China (yep, the home of the Terracotta Warriors!). I’m an ENFP, so I love meeting new people and am open to have a sincere talk.

In 2019, spent two weeks teaching English at a rural primary school in China. In 2022, I worked with an NGO about the empowerment of women where I was the head of the academic department. This role deepened my commitment to social issues and women's rights.

I’ve had three hamsters in my life, and they all lived to about 3 years old, which, let’s be honest, is quite an achievement for hamsters! I also love playing the ukulele and singing (sometimes both at the same time — it’s a vibe). Recently, I’ve been getting into watercolor sketching too.

I’m currently a PhD student in English Literature, one of my research focuses is comparing rural lifestyles and leisure concepts between the East and West. I’m really curious about how people from different cultures define happiness.

I can cook up some tasty Chinese and Mediterranean dishes, so if you’re into good food, we’re definitely going to get along!

I’m a pretty good student (I’ve been in the ivory tower for quite a while), so I’m really looking forward to letting Nature be my teacher and I'll humbly learn anything given from it.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Language Teaching: I’ve been an English tutor for a long time, and I love helping people learn. My boyfriend also says I’m a great Chinese teacher, so I guess I’m good at making languages fun!

Cooking: Cooking runs in the family — I’ve learned so many awesome tips from my parents. I’m always up for trying new recipes and whipping up something delicious.

Arts and Crafts: I’m all about DIY and getting creative with my hands. I’m into needle felting and embroidery, and I love making quirky, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Media Management: I create videos and host a podcast, so I’ve got some experience in media and content creation.

Farm Work: I spent some time doing Workaway in the Czech Republic (before I had my own account) with my boyfriend. I’m not an expert in gardening or farm work, but I learned a ton and I’m always down to help out with anything that comes my way.

House renovation: I recently completed a Workaway in France where I picked up some handy renovation skills, like plastering and installing windows, etc.
