Hey!

My name is Elanne Janssens and I am a citizen from Belgium where I have lived and still live my whole live. In December 2024 I turned 18 and since then there went a whole new world open for me.
Ever since I was around 16 years old I always told every one I would stop studying (which I was bored of anyway) and start traveling the world. I am quiet an adventurous person within my own limits but I'm definitely open minded and hearted, and traveling gives me that energy which I crave.
Unfortunately my world turned upside down and I went for the 'safe' option and started a course archaeology at the university in Brussels (VUB). I picked that one for a reason of course, I'm interested in human and natural history, diverse cultures, art and being outdoors. But it didn't last very long because it was too academic for me. I started to notice that I preferred a more practical approach. Alas, ever since March 2025 I was not able to find any other course that resonated with me.
This is a little backstory of the past 2 years but my passion for travel and volunteering go further than that. I had very lucky opportunities to travel a lot with my family. Since I was 10 I started traveling out of Europe and explored complete different cultures then I was used to. Ever since I fell in love with the feeling and knowledge travel gave me.
I love the outdoors, healthy and veggie/vegan food, creative activities and learning about the world (with its diverse people). My current sports are yoga/pilates, archery and I danced for 15 years (ballet and modern dance). To boost my creativity, I take lessons in photography, so I would be able to take breathtaking pictures while traveling :)
I try to make conscious choices regarding climate change and would like to make my impact on the planet minimal while traveling. That's currently my live goal. While I'm still figuring things out and finding my path in live I would like to fill my days with experiences that make me richer in mind and heart. I love to learn new things and leave a positive impact. I hope workaway can help me along the way and of course that I can help any host on workaway as well!

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

In my secondary school I studied human science for 4 years. I learned a lot about psychology and how the human brain works, it was fascinating. Apart from that was I always interested in history and geography when I was in Highschool. Since I was 10 I started learning French (its standard here in Belgium) and in Highschool came English and German along. On my own I started learning a little bit of Spanish (Duolingo of course) so I have some basics but not much.
At home I have a garden where I like to tend to the vegetables and fruits we have every year. Recently we renewed a part of the garden and planted some new plants and a tree. I made the plans of how it would look like and which plants we would use. Later I planted them myself.
In the summer of 2025 I worked as a student at my local greenery for a month. I helped with removing A LOT of weeds and gathering leaves. I worked in a team and helped with any little task was necessary.
Before that I stood for 2 years in a bakery where I worked with fresh baked goods, clients and money.
Apart from the practical stuff, I also try to do some creative stuff like photography, making presents or little decorative things. While I was a lot at home these past few months I also learned a lot of household tasks and helped my parents around the house.

I have 3 cats at home, all my live I have had cats around the house so I know how to provide for them (and most importantly how to pet them!). My mother and sister have a horse, and when I was younger I also learned how to ride horses, so I now me way around them bur I'm not always very comfortable around them.
I like to read and lose myself in a some fiction and fantasy stories. Movies and series are also a big interest of mine.
A like to dance (for I have done so for 15 years) and would love to teach some moves :)
Right now I do yoga and archery which are very relaxing sports for body and mind. I can also combine the outdoors with archery, its my absolute favourite mix.
When I travel I like to explore by foot and take a lot of hikes. When I'm more in a city I love the visit museums and beautiful architecture.
