Hi there! My name is James, a remote worker from the UK who is looking to embrace new opportunities and experiences through Workaway.

A little bit about me:

I have a passion for travelling, and experiencing foreign cultures which has led me all around the world. In my early 20s, I went backpacking throughout Mexico, South America and Asia. I also lived in Australia and New Zealand for many wonderful years, and currently I live in a beautiful part of north Tenerife where I've been for the last two years.

I've had quite a diverse working life, starting out in the fitness industry as a personal trainer and along the way becoming an English as a second language teacher and now an online curriculum developer / content writer.

My best attributes are probably being open-minded, adaptable and willing to embrace any new challenge. I enjoy getting my hands dirty doing physically demanding work and working outside is no problem. Because of my work online, I'm also capable of helping out with computer related work or anything related to writing in English.

What I'm looking for from this experience:

Currently I find myself at an interesting crossroads where I have the opportunity to seek out new experiences such as this. My wish is to learn more about permaculture and sustainability, connect more deeply with nature, meet interesting and like-minded people and do more hands-on types of work. All of this while also having some time to finish an online course that I am creating and plan the next stage of my career.

I have over 12 years of experience in the English as a second language teaching industry. I can teach one-to-one and group classes from beginner all the way through to advanced. I also freelance as a content writer, editor and proofreader and have experience editing websites and marketing materials for small companies who want to make their content in English stand out. One of my goals is to reach fluency in Spanish so I am also looking for the opportunity to practice this whenever I can.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Physical work - I'm fit, healthy and good with my hands, so I can help with any type of manual labour jobs. I have some experience with painting, decorating, construction and gardening.

Cooking - I'm not a chef but I have worked in the hospitality industry for many years so I know about safety and hygiene, plus I have some knowledge of nutrition from my personal training days. I'm comfortable in the kitchen and capable of preparing shared meals for groups of people. I'm flexitarian, so I'm happy to adjust the food that I eat to accommodate others.

Written and Spoken English - I have lots of experience teaching English and also doing high level proofreading, copyediting and other work that involves writing in English.

Animals - I'm an animal lover and have both owned and looked after cats and dogs in the past. I don't have much experience with other animals, but I'm comfortable around all creatures and of course I'm willing to learn!

I like to have an active lifestyle - I love rock climbing both outdoors and indoors. I'm also really into hiking and exploring natural environments. My other main hobby is snorkeling and swimming, which I usually do a few times a week.

Apart from that, I'm also a movie and book lover, especially ones related to psychology, sci-fi and business. I'm also quite fond of getting into deep discussions over a good glass of wine!

I have a full driving license and also own a car. I also have Spanish residency so I am able to work legally.
