Hello! My names Detlef and I'm 23 :) I'm an outdoorsy guy who loves to enjoy nature in any and all capacities I can. I find great comfort when I am surrounded by trees. I'm studying to be a structural engineer of mass timber buildings, have worked in Oregon State University's Wood Science and Engineering labs for three years, and love to woodwork! My friends call me a wood guy, which I find fitting.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I just graduated from Oregon State University with my bachelors in Civil Engineering! So, I have a good understanding of math, science, and their practical applications. I used to tutor when I was younger, and love helping others improve their understanding of concepts - even those unrelated to engineering!

During my studies, I worked in the wood science labs as an undergraduate research assistant. My largest role was creating wood samples for other researchers to test. I also worked construction for a summer when I was younger. Through these experiences I have gained lots of knowledge safely using many power tools, including all sorts of saws, and have become quite handy at making things!

Having access to a wood shop kindled a love of woodworking too. I have now built two tables, a silverware divider, and am currently working on a set of stools for my mother and a chair for my father. Furniture making brings me lots of joy and relaxation. I love slowing down and using hand tools - it keeps me in the moment.

Beyond that, I garden and take care of many houseplants. I get a lot of joy from seeing my plants grow bigger and happier with time. It is a slow satisfaction and I will miss them dearly on my travels. Hopefully I can help you with your plants or farm!

I've also come to enjoy cooking and baking for myself and others in recent years! I love how food brings people together, and so much love and care can be shown through feeding those around you. My favorite thing to make is tacos, or a nice seared salmon. Would love to exchange meals and recipes during my stay :)
Happy to eat vegetarian or vegan as well!

I love playing cards! I've got a collection of around 40 decks and counting plus plenty of games in my head! I'll deal out a game of rummy at the drop of a hat.
