Hello, I’m Cat. I am an American solo traveler looking to expand my skill set and experience the inspiring world around us through true cultural immersion. I am newer to Workaway, however I have experience working with a host family abroad as an au pair.

My friends would say I am a compassionate and open person; I am always looking for new experiences in our area, no matter how strange some may seem! Meeting new people, learning from each other and connecting through shared passions is the best feeling to me. I live life saying, “don’t knock it before you try it!”.

A few hobbies I would love to spend more time doing whilst traveling are exploring nature, hiking, swimming outdoors, skiing, and kayaking. A goal of mine is to expand my knowledge of a sustainable lifestyle. I really want to learn the hands on skills necessary to live sustainably. I am always interested in broadening my cooking skills, as immersion in food culture is something I prioritize when traveling!

As someone who loves kids, animals, and diverse experiences, I think I would thrive in most Workaway situations.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

I have personal experience with kitchen gardens, I can always improve and expand on that knowledge. I don’t know much about flowers or landscaping, but am open to learn.

I have worked with kids the last 10 years and been an au pair in Italy previously. I have been a full time nanny in the States for the last five years. I’ve worked with kids of varying ages from infancy to teens, as well as worked with neurodivergent children. I am doing workaway to learn new skills in areas besides childcare, so while I am open to children being a piece of the situation, I would prefer not to be a child care employee.

I cook a lot at home and bake occasionally. I do best with Italian food! I have waitressed and bar tended at a brewery and also a restaurant in the past, so I have plenty of service experience. In my personal life I have been teaching myself mixology and would enjoy expanding that knowledge.

I have hiked and camped my whole life and am generally knowledgeable about the outdoors. I am eager to add to that knowledge.

In my solo free time I am an avid reader. I also enjoy yoga, podcasts, listening to music, cooking, and comedy shows. With friends I like to try new restaurants, have game nights, go to concerts, see stand up, hikes/walks, camping, or to see what events are going on and to try something different. For example, last month I attended a candle making class, wine tasted at a new winery in a nearby town, and went to a Jamaican festival at our local waterfront park.
