Description

We think connection and conversation happens meaningfully through shared work. And new environments can be energizing and change the "default choices" of your day to day.

At the time of this writing (2023 06) Jan and I are intending on travelling with our dogs Maya and Wrinkles in a "tiny house" on wheels (teardrop style camper) that we built ourselves and that we have named our Adventure Wagon. We are taking on a new chapter after some intense work over the last few years in a tech startup and an independent school. We are parents of adult children.

*About Craig:

My favourite space is sharing stories and posing questions of each other around a fire while sharing food and drink after intense day.

Lots of experience in tech, but also grew up on a farm and worked as a labourer in construction as well as being a home owner that leaned DIY. Happy to labour, or help with building projects - check out the teardrop trailer we built in the photos attached to this profile.

Craig's most novel travel experience was travelling for work to Tokyo.

*About Jan:

Jan loves telling winding stories, cute animals and is taking up photography again after a hiatus. Her favourite space is in a warm hoody in the forest hanging out with her dog Wrinkles.

Jan has a ton of experience in independent schools from the classroom to administration and she created and operated child-centered programs such as: Montessori, a dialog based intermediate program, and most recently a program for "twice exceptional" students. Her recent twice exceptional program was community and child-centered and helped kids thrive who had the combination (as many of us do!) of hurdles to overcome such neurodivergence, ADD, or ASD at the same time as having areas of great strength and energy in skills like music, art, mathematics or writing. Jan loves organizing projects and processes, and has also been a home owner that leaned into DIY projects.

Jan is taking a software development course as a "digital nomad" as we travel and is happy to help with general activities, farm labour, and enjoys working with and spending time with children.

Jan's most novel travel experience was snorkeling in the Galapagos Islands.

*About Wrinkles and Maya:

Maya and Wrinkles can be great with other pets, free range farm animals, and people. Wrinkles actually was at Jan's school everyday for the last couple years and was a loved mascot (and support when kids were having a stressful day!) so is especially good with and affectionate with children. And you can see Maya hanging out with a Muscovy duck on a family members farm in the photos above too. But of course we are pragmatic pet owners so know that we need to be deliberate about introducing our pets to new situations - and appreciate when hosts collaborate on this. And we know that hosts need to be completely comfortable with how things are working out in practice so happy to be flexible with our stay as we see how things are working.

Quelles sont vos compétences ?

Both grew up on a farms and worked summers at a lumber mill (Craig), farms (both), restaurants (Craig), Vet clinic (Jan) and more.

We are parents with grown children and are comfortable with responsibility for and spending time with children of various ages

Craig is an experienced technologist with deep software development experience, and I have been a founder and leader and technology startups.

Jan is an experienced entrepreneur and teacher who has worked with children with various needs.

Both of us like and are comfortable with building projects and the outdoors.
