Description
Akwaaba Workawayers!
We're first-time hosts and we're excited to welcome someone or two into our family! We live in a small town just 2 hours from Hohoe by bus. We are a couple living in the Oti region dreaming up some farming projects and enjoying rural Ghana occasionally spending time in Accra where Anorkor is from. We have a big garden with lots of fruit trees (orange, mango, coconut, guava, soursop), herbs. Our edible plants haven't been successful due to our animals eating them before they grow. We have pets (chickens, turkey, guinea fowls, tortoise and lots of rabbits roaming freely.)
About our family:
My Anorkor and I are proud parents of four amazing children. NL(9y) is our eldest and is in the 4th grade. NK (7y) is in 2nd grade. NT (4y) is having fun learning age appropriate academic skills. NI (2.5y) is our youngest and is mastering talking, potty training and learning to eat neatly and independently, doing all the normal things 2y do etc. We have busy schedules but a peaceful countryside life. I'm a researcher and we alternate taking care of children when the other travels for work /research abroad.
About Alex & Anorkor
Alex— affectionately known as the 'Tourist Farmer'
Equal parts dirt-under-the-nails doer and deep-thinking historian, Alex isn’t afraid of a little mud, mess, or mayhem. If it’s disgusting, dangerous, or just plain difficult, he’s first in line — usually with a cutlass in one hand and a curious toddler in the other. A proud villager at heart, he’s a Austrian soul navigating Ghanaian soil, forever wondering how he ended up so lucky living the life he dreams of... and makes magic where he is — raising his kids on slow mornings, wild bike rides down unpaved paths, and stories by bonfire.
Alex is a hands-on dad who delights in 5 a.m. wake-up calls, lime pulp juice, and historical fiction (preferably with a dramatic flair). By day, he builds adventures. By night, he turns pages for tiny hands. His mission? To raise nature-loving, wonder-filled children who know and love their African roots — and aren’t afraid of the rugged muddy life. Oh, and don’t be fooled by the serious face. He’s probably just thinking about his unfinished research — or how to air layer propagate a fancy fruit tree in a neighbor's yard.
About Anorkor,— Montessori mama, cultural compass, and professional problem-solver. Anorkor is a Ga woman raised in the U.S., now finding her rhythm deep in Eweland — gracefully juggling Montessori and Pikler principles with the beautiful chaos of homeschooling four vibrant children (three spirited girls and one boy calmly observing it all). A former children’s book connoisseur and aspiring author, Anorkor once felt at home roaming cities — Accra, Philly, Cairo, DC, NYC, Madrid, Ljubljana, Vienna — always searching for a place that felt like home. But after one too many mommy burnouts in Europe, she traded playgrounds and cobblestone streets for feeding chickens and chasing rabbits back on Ghanaian soil.
She doesn’t quite blend into rural life (she gives “city” vibes, even when her feet stands on “farm”), but Anorkor is a born troubleshooter — the kind of spirit who sees “impossible” as a puzzle waiting to be solved. She holds her African values and languages close and her children even closer (in fact, if you’re talking to her for more than five minutes, she’s probably brought them up already — it’s her love language).
In her downtime, you’ll find her casually trolling homesteading forums, dreaming up elaborate farm visions... and quietly wondering, “Okay, but who’s actually going to do all that?” Spoiler: she might recruit her kids and hubby and hire workers to do it. Anorkor is forever figuring it out — one cultural shift, rabbit feed, and kid-led learning day at a time.Types d'aide et opportunités d'apprendre

During the weekends we often explore different local spots or just spend time in the orange orchard or cocoa farm to meet family/friends/locals, where you are welcome to join us.
We have a super nice house in Accra (Osu Ako-Adjei not far from the seaside) as well so when you have free time (weekends) if you want to spend some free time in the capital city we got you covered.
Our offer might suit travellers with an interest in child care, nature, hiking and experiencing cocoa farming. It is a very special part of Ghana - lush and green and lots of waterfalls in the nearby towns - and there is a great warmth in the community. Kids often go out at 5am for long bike rides to catch the sunrise in various hot spots. We have enough bikes if you want to join them explore the region. We are 15 minutes away from the Togo Minnesu border and Togo is easy to reach.
The children take classes in some local languages that you can join them if you're interest.Projets impliquant des enfants

The two little ones have a primary caregiver who takes care of their feeding, bathing, naps, daytime and bedtime routine. We also have a cook and cleaner handling household chores.
